Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Spray an 8-by-8 or 9-by-9-inch square pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  3. Thoroughly mix flour, sugar, cocoa, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  4. In another bowl, whisk the egg white and milk and then stir in applesauce, corn syrup and vanilla. Stir in dry mixture until blended.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake 35 to 40 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan and cut into squares.
