celebrity Master Chef is back I do like cooking and I do love Master Chef these celebrities are all passionate about food it would be wonderful for me to win we’re looking for that exceptional cooking style someone who’s more than just a good home cook someone with that extra something special give you so much street cred to beat the Master Chef the celebrity Master Chef it’s celebrity Master Chef these three celebrities believe they have what it takes to become Master Chef Pauline Quirk is the award-winning and baa nominated actress I’m a bit nervous about meeting Greg and John Matt James is the much loved TV garden design expert I expect it’s going to be difficult that’s for sure Chris Hollings is the well-known Sports presenter from breakfast news I’m feeling petrified scared but I’m going to have a laugh today they’ll undergo three rigorous tests they’ll have to invent two dishes from scratch from a mystery box of ingredients hey you haven’t got cocoa pops and their balsamic vinegar I’m really pleased about that they have to survive the pressure of cooking their own dish for paying customers no no no no no no no no no what’s um it’s not cooked and they have to impress with their best two course meal I don’t know whether I want to sort of go yay or but only one of them will go through to the [Music] quarterfinal two delicious plates of food 50 minutes it’s Master Chef let’s cook the celebrities have just 50 minutes to create two exceptional dishes from any of today’s mystery ingredients which include rump steak Water Crest Stilton white wine Panetta Soul fets puff pastry mango mango mango and pear judging the celebrities of food writer and broadcaster Greg Wallace just want to see some confidence just want to see some very simple but delightful dishes and Top Chef and restaur John tood we’re looking with somebody who really loves food and somebody can show us they care about it fall in qu the public love her but can she cook I can cook you a nice dinner but whether it’ll be something that you pay £70 for in a London restaurant I don’t think so I’m busy what what you want my question I suppose Pauline is you know accomplished actress how do you find time to cook with such a busy career um there’s always time to cook isn’t there I make sure uh we have a dinner every night and roasting got have a roast on a Sunday isn’t yeah what are you cooking Pauline a water crust and blue cheese and pear salad M what about the steak how’s that going to be served um simple it was a nice bit of meat don’t mess with it you’ve got great B basic skills what about pushing it a bit further ping is there a chance of you being able to do that as long as I can get through this little section today without that giving you food poisoning I’ll be happy Chris hings Sports presenter brought up in the sports world that a footballer Chris is going to be competitive that is for sure it’s whether he has the base skill to produce good food obviously I get up very early in the morning everything’s got to be done quickly and on the table as soon as possible Chris you’re all over the place one end of the bench up here down there you got stuff all are you always this messy I am mentally and physically I’m all over the shop it seems to me what you’re doing is hedging your bets and hoping that eventually one of the 27 things you’re thinking of cooking actually might come off basically my plan is if I cook most of the stuff then eventually it will come [Music] together 15 minutes left guys 15 minutes Matt James the Urban Gardener if he cares about what comes out of the ground he’ll care about what goes in the pot and what goes on a plate I’m quite like Mediterranean simple food I don’t like it very fussy I’m not a big souran what are you actually going to make for us um I’m going to do piece of simple grilled lemon so I’m just going to do a pear and mango salad with just a little dribble of honey on it and that’s it simp is that it’s very simple Matt yes and of course it’s showing uh a respect of ingredient but if your other competitors are going to produce very good food but with more sophisticated processes sure we should see it’s all in the taste though isn’t it it’s all in the [Music] taste 1 minute left that’s it guys all [Music] done first up it’s actress Pauline who’s made a salad of blue cheese Water Crest and pear okay Pauline no not really are yeah no it’s fan in a perverse sort of way that’s it it’s why it’s a classic absolutely perfect deep cheese salty bacon bit of heat of water Crest it’s it’s perfect paing there’s there’s nothing to own about there okay my favorite thing about this you haven’t gone and thrown something silly over it like balsamic vinegar it doesn’t need anything else will Pauline second dis of pan fried steak mashed potato and tomatoes show she has the makings of a Master [Music] Chef first thing is garlic into a chewy well seasoned steak the most beautiful creamy gorgeous mashed potato Pauline this augers very well for your Master Chef future I think oh thank you delicious sweet tomato really well seasoned beautiful piece of steak not overcooked not dry it all comes together to make delicious delicious food despite his chaotic approach Chris has made a blue cheese and pear tartlet served with beetroot the beetro is Savory yet really sweet which is nice the blue cheese and pastry base is nice you know all that salt all that creaminess I think that’s got glimmer of a of of a of a decent cook will Chris’s combination of lemon sole with white wine and tomato sauce be as [Music] successful do you use salt very often no and you can tell you didn’t season your fish you haven’t really salted your sauce you haven’t salted your vegetables at all and therefore it’s becoming a bit of a mange of you know ordinariness yeah blandness the whole thing would have been enhanced and lifted with a just a decent amount of seasoning yeah Gardener Matt has decided to push the boundaries with lemon so and a classic Water Crest sauce served with [Music] broccoli unfortunately because the sauce is so watery sure the whole thing’s just getting washed away okay and you’ve got to something in there needs to needs to thicken up the fish is the is the star of the show it is really nicely cooked and that gives me hope because the sauce is not that good that’s a real shame will Matt’s mango and pear fruit salad be too simple to show any culinary [Music] skill it is a fruit salad yes I don’t know what to say Matt hey you haven’t got cocoa pops on their balsamic vinegar I’m really pleased about that well done Pat yourselves in the back off you go we’ll see you tomorrow thank you that’s very hard I know exactly what you’re thinking got away with it just celebrity Master Chef we’re looking for a cooking star and today I feel like we had six dishes which were almost all edible brilliant I’ve got high expectations now of Pauline because to come on here and go right okay that’s that’s what I do and to do it so competently and so well I think we may have a great cook on our hands I could be wrong there is a competition here still it is Master Chef we are looking for the sublime now as well this is great home food she has to pick it up from great home food to make it even better the fact that I managed to make potatoes without lumps in Hardy makes me a top chef but I I would like to go a little bit further and to listen to them say that what I did was quite good I’m Chu a bits really so who knows should we talk about Chris he never worked with puff pastry before but he managed to put it out the oven just the right time and blue cheese on the top of it that’s not a bad idea he just needs a little bit more confidence my biggest concern for Chris is he doesn’t taste his own food whilst he’s cooking and that’s a concern because he has no idea what it’s going to taste like when he serves it to other people I think this very moment I’m out of my depth but I’m going to keep on fighting Matt cooked his fish very well and actually in a very stressful situation the fact that he made that fruit salad as simply as he did it actually gives me confidence in him there’s one thing these guys tell you it’s keep it simple and don’t go over the top so I I kind of pulled that in and maybe just went a little bit too far you know but when he said I’m going to do lemon saw and Water Crest sauce I went wow W I probably had too many expectations cuz it wasn’t nice however his detail his Focus the way he works makes me think the guy will do very very well in the Pro Kitchen and he may come out of there a very different person for tonight the pressure’s off but tomorrow they’ll face their most demanding test [Music] yet it’s day two and Matt py and Chris are about to face their next challenge working a busy lunchtime service in a professional kitchen vandry is a high-end French restaurant in the heart of London’s West [Music] End headchef Raj Nathan has high standards that he expects the celebrities to maintain I am quite vocal I am quite loud if it’s not right I will tell you if it’s not right there under his guidance they will each have to design a dish which they’ll cook every time it’s ordered Pauline is cooking a starter of warm baby arter choke salad with goat’s cheese and Sun blushed tomato Matt has decided to cook pan fried salmon with brazed fennel cherry tomatoes and black olives and Chris has devised a dish of duck breast with wild mushroom and a red wine Jew but will their food be good enough to impress paying customers it’s midday and the restaurant is quickly filling up all right check on to start squid chip be the pl two ping specials yes chef thank you Pauline starter proves instantly popular one Pauline special please yes chef PA let’s have your salad on it way chef that year when I was moaning and groaning about doing Christmas dinner for 19 people he actually paying off now excuse me please one special duck one squash yes sir Chris quickly gets going with his first duck dish but he’s trying to cook too fast no no no no no no no no no um too rare it’s it’s not cooked he has to start again trying to get the first one dead right that up this time the duck’s cooked but now he’s rushed his sauce and made it too thick and he’s not thinking about presentation you want the Jew around around it yeah make sure you get it right for the next time yeah Chris is still struggling with his sauce now it’s too thin please foru please ruce please reice please ruce please reu it’s the third attempt and Chris is desperate to get his duck dish right all right that’s better that’s much better thank you very ni it was excellent very succulent very well presented very tasty check on to salmon and scramble Lodge Matt’s also up against it as the orders stack up for his salmon Matt give us an answer how long fish special uh 6 minutes Chef thank you his dish is complex with three components but he’s determined to get them right see if it’s a gardening this is just like go go go all right let’s go table 11 Matt I need your salmon 10 seconds Chef despite the pressure Matt stays focused and determined and it’s paying off he’s producing perfectly cooked salmon dishes there you go that’s the one beautifully cooked very juicy and the vegetables tasted really fresh through the drink Pauline is still inundated with orders for her starter four Pauline specials no I think we’re running out of AR don’t you is like a little machine over there she’s churning them out I was like a gazelle wasn’t I but she keeps her cool and the chef is impressed I asked you to do them all the same Pauling yes and you have thank you sir fantastic the combination of the tomatoes the AR choke the goat cheese and the pine nuts were excellent Paul how many AR choke you got left uh one more after these two fantastic nearly sold [Music] out after two long hours the lunch service is over John and Greg catch up with head chef Raj to find out how the celebrities coped Raj thank you very much extremely busy service generally were these celebs better or worse than you thought they’d be in the kitchen um out of the three of them Pauline probably had the busiest service and she was very good with it she was very good with it Chris during service I think he got a little bit worried when his first start came up was very rare um I think towards the end when he got his last to me and it was exactly the way that I wanted it he was happy but I think in the beginning he was a little bit probably annoyed of himself here’s I suppose the question out of the three of them who do you think is the best cook in my opinion I think Matt was the best cook because of his dish he had to do the salmon he had to do his garnish and he had to do the sauce don’t get me wrong Pauline was fantastic but I would say as a more accomplished Chef it will probably be Matt now they’re straight back to Master Chef HQ to cook their best two course meal yesterday presenter Chris failed to impress in the invention test and he struggled to perfect his dishes in the professional kitchen actress Pauline impressed the judges on day one with her two dishes and she coped well in the restaurant yesterday Gardener Matt’s waterest Source disappointed but he proved himself by excelling in the Pro Kitchen which which one can now walk away the winner this is where we get to understand what you consider to be good food because these are dishes you’ve practiced before we know that you believe in them otherwise you wouldn’t be cooking for us today what you’re about to cook off you go they need to cook an exceptional two course meal of their own design only one will win a place in the [Music] quarterfinal ch’s menu is inspired by his love of Italian food he will need to produce two exceptional courses to stay in the race you look pretty chilled very very confident you’ve obviously done these dishes quite a few times before yeah why are they so special um I think they basically sum up what I like for a meal uh the porn and pea risotto I like it with a good glass of white wine and then my main course some lamb cutlets with a good hearty red and that’s me done risoto needs to be well seasoned are you going to be do that today I learned a lot yesterday uh because I don’t eat a lot of salt never have done um and I learned today especially being in the kitchen today with the experts you need to season well problem is of course if you’re not used to tasting salt yeah how do you balance this uh by constantly tasting it ah Chris good news I think the Chap’s got it we have this question mark about seasoning that’s Chris’s challenge to actually make that food taste beautiful Matt is hoping to impress by rebelling against his simple style he’s risking a source that experiments with unusual flavor combinations but he’ll need to stay focused to get it right what are you up to Matt what are you going to do for us um forar is just going to be a simple Christini with um a bit of goat cheese on top and then salmon with orange and beetroot sauce it’s a quite interesting combination him I you’re really risking it here because you are going out in a limb is this what you like as food yeah very much I quite like sort of Mediterranean cookery and I quite like lots of strong taste what do you think you have that other competitors may not have I don’t know I’m I’m quite calm I’m quite sort of methodical and quite sort of focused on what I’m doing and that in itself might be quite good we shall see beet and orange sauce I mean he’s challenging his palette obviously but I’ve got few few [Music] concerns 15 minutes left Pauline is hoping to get through by cooking her most ambitious menu yet Pauline we wanted to see if you could take your food from good home food to a better level are you going to show us that today uh I hope so what have we got uh you’ve got a breast of chicken stuffed with herbs and I know like your puddings didn’t you uh soft scentered chocolate cake Pauline what’s what’s the bit of this menu that you think is the most tricky oh it’s I’ve never made puddings before I never ever do puddings and I’m doing it cuz Mr Wallace loves a pudding wow fancy well the not the best time to start making puddings I know and if you don’t mind I’d like to get stuff my chicken breast it’s good it’s good doesn’t set the world on fire it’s got to deliver big style in flavor time is slipping away You’ve Got 5 minutes left time is up Pauline’s cook two crowd Pleasers herb chicken in taragan sauce followed by a soft scentered chocolate cake with cream the whole thing is quite a heady right quite a headyy mixture it’s very nice the chicken’s soft the mash needs needs flavoring but that taragan sauce and the Herby stuffing it’s gorgeous oh so he is good you’re making food which looks as though it doesn’t promise very much but once you open that chicken up and the fragrance of it and the way it’s been cooked I think that’s this is just really really good well it smells nice anyway it’s very he and here we have your chocolate pudding hopefully soft inside hopefully well look it it’s not gone as firm as a cake it’s not pouring out though is it it’s not pouring out no I will say one thing for your recipe it’s a lot lighter than it looks and feels it’s because there is no there’s no sauce with it and it’s gone a bit dry on me in the mouth it goes a bit sort of cotton wool like the thing is about it is that you have been cooking a very long time and you’ve decided to step outside your comfort zone and actually test your ability and say well can I do what is needed to bring my food up and I think you’re really close I think it looked nice on the plate which is is always something and they didn’t spit it out I mean you can’t ask more than that really can you Chris has made a prawn mint and pea risoto followed by lamb cutlets with zuc fritters and a wine and anvy sauce I think you had panicked yeah and it and it shows because you had it completely under control it was looking vibrant it was looking green and then for some reason or other right at the last minute you put it back on the heat and that’s where your rice is going to a bit chalky on you peas have changed color but some great distinctive flavors there the lemon is is the star I think it’s a a good start works for me first of all I got that lemon I thought that’s too much pra and rice took over actually evened itself out quite nicely let’s move to our lamb lamb and anchovies well yesterday I doubted your flavors but they’re great our cetes are a bit soggy which is a shame so texturally it’s all a bit weird but the flavors are great that’s that’s great oh thanks that’s really great I mean there’s obviously some mistakes but what we were concerned about you is is irrelevant now because that lamb and that sauce is squeezit I was really really flattered with the comments they made about my tastes um and the fact that I combine them well with the the plates of food that I produced and hopefully that may be just enough encouragement for them to push me through but we’ll have to wait and see Matt’s taken an adventurous approach with past Caper goat cheese and apple crostini followed by salmon fets with orange and beetroot sauce and new potatoes there are some really really interesting flavors of the sourness of the Capers with the sweetness of the parley the saltiness of that goat’s cheese the Apple I can’t get it all works for me Matt soft tomato juicy that’s a very very nice combination okay should we move to our main course salmon yeah I got to say I heard the words beat TR and orange I was like it’s really interesting actually no I mean I don’t know whether I want to sort of go in and go yay or ah because what you are doing is you are pushing the bound without being ridiculous everything in my inner being tells me to dislike the sticky fruit and fish unfortunately I do like it and it scares me that I like it it’s like I’ve suddenly found out I’m a crossdresser cooking is very very creative and I’ve tried something slightly different and I I would love to see that take me through we now somehow have to make a decision who becomes our quar of finest now go outside op it we’re going to talk about you and choose one of you off you [Music] go that was hard of these three celebrities which one is the best cook now because they’re going to have to face very very stiff competition from here on in there were certain things that Chris had to do today can you make your food sing and in real terms that’s what Chris did the Lamb with the anovas was really really tasty he did prove that he can taste food and he can deliver two very very good dishes but does he have enough in him to go any further I don’t know what it is but we’re really competitive that food you put on the table is a bit of you and you want them to like it because that’s what you like and that’s what you you’ve produced I think Paul Chris he was the least successful in the Pro Kitchen I think some of his food was good today but not better than the other two that really for me puts Chris out let’s talk about Pauling we saw a great steak yesterday what we saw today as well was chicken cabbage very very good flavors but that chocolate pudding didn’t deliver like it should have delivered and I don’t feel as though Pauline actually raised her food to the standard that we really wanted her to do but her food has a real Touch of Class in that it’s understated it tastes like it’s been done by a professional who’s put a lot of thought into flavoring I was really flattered you know for Greg Wallace and John Z Ro to say it was really good and the bits that I got right I really got right so for me that was very very nice Matt’s fruity sauce with that salmon should not have worked but it did and it worked very well really interesting deep flavors well conceived food but the thought process is the most impressive thing I’m very pleased I had a goat and it’s it’s the same in all all Fields if you don’t have a goat doing something ever so slightly do new then how did you ever progress but right now is Matt actually cooking food that people want to eat serving an apple on the side of a Christini I don’t know Madness or magic this is very hard to judge because we are judging two completely different cooking Styles and techniques we’re not judging people in the same ballpark here which one are you going to go for here John we by a decision our quarterfinalist Matt [Music] congratulations I hate losing but at the end of the day to coin a football phrase uh I was beaten by the better man let it change you will you I can serve up a nice dinner but that don’t make you master shift does it so I think they were absolutely right hello um I won you won yeah I won congratulations I’m absolutely elated I mean it was it was a wonderful wonderful experience Matt will be back for the quarterfinals when he’ll battle against three other celebrity cooks for the title of celebrity Master [Music] Chef [Music] I actually really like combination I thought that frighten me it’s big dull I’m so sorry it’s so so close that is a perfect mixture with a bit of help you could be producing food rest on standard
