I sure wasn’t expecting these gigantic pieces of charcoal to fall out of my bag at 5 a.m. on Christmas morning. Seems like there’s no middle ground anymore. Everything I’ve bought lately is either huge or pulverized.
All ended well, though.

Do you use something for a starter? I can’t picture lighting lump with just the stick lighter in the picture.
I keep a hammer out by my egg in case I get some of these giant chunks. I just break them up into more manageable pieces. They can cause significant cold spots if they are lit from the bottom (they actually shield the heat if they aren’t fully lit or at least flipped over where the top part is burning instead of the bottom).
The cook looks fantastic btw. Very nice.
What temp and how long?
