I picked up this medium BGE from an estate sale for $50. They didn’t know anything about it. The broken piece of the fire bowl wasn’t with it and it’s also missing the bottom grate. It looks like the base must have been replaced at some point too because it’s pretty clean inside and the exterior has a different texture than the lid.
Would it work to use one of the stainless steel fire bowls on the top of the damaged fire bowl?
I’m new to this type of cooking and want to try it out before investing more heavily into it if I can help it.

Nice find! I would recommend getting the kick ash basket. That looks like there is enough fire bowl for it to sit elevated on.
Wow. That is a great deal. Second on the kick ash basket and maybe their can. Makes it so easy to deal with coal, ash and clean up. I do think you will need the new fire ring though. There is more to heat and smoke movement than you think. That gap would affect that. The bottom is new. That clean gasket and light color shows no use. Maybe the ring got broke during the new bowl install.
Are you sure it is a medium? 18 inches should make it a large. Also check the nuts and make sure they are tight. That hole on the front of the top is for a dome thermometer. You don’t want to see your top tumble off. Check out Captain Ron on utube forgo channel. Lots of good info for you there.
