I bought a brand new green egg and I've been using it this past month. I did pizzas on it yesterday at a high temp and the egg cracked in two places. Is this unusual? Is it covered by the warantee?

You may think this picture shows a cracked fire ring. To many of us it shows the aftermath of extremely high heat. As in: irresponsibly high heat similar to the fusion of atomic nuclei.

You better check the bottom of your egg, you likely cracked the bottom of that too.

My 9th firebox and 5th fire ring cracked as well

  3. Submit these photo’s for a claim. Talk to your dealer and see if they will include this on their next shipment (or give you a new fire ring from their inventory). My BGE dealer will do the latter.

It’s under warranty but the cracks won’t make a difference in the performance of the BGE. You can file a claim and get a back up firebox in case yours ever crumbles completely, which likely will never happen.

I’ve got cracks in my firebox that are 8+ years old, and they don’t impact anything. My BGE is 16 years old and the only thing I’ve ever had to replace is the gasket (using a nomex one now). I went years with no gasket at all and it was totally fine. A friend of mine’s firebox is in three pieces. He just lines them and puts the fire ring on top and he’s good to go.

You shouldn’t do high temp cooks for a while.

I was gifted my egg. How do I go about filing a claim for this?

  7. Honestly get a Pizza oven. Eggs crack easy with high heat like that.
