Stopped here on our way to San Antonio. One of the OG BBQ places in central Texas. I honestly wasn’t expecting much, but it was really freaking good. I’d probably skip the ribs and shoulder clod next time, but the sausage, turkey, and pork chop were great.

Let me guess, you sold your first born child for this meal?

The shoulder clod is that slice of meat in the left? Idk that I’ve ever had that. What were your criticisms there?

At most of the old BBQ places in Central Texas, if you asked for lean you got clod and if you asked for moist you got brisket. I feel like clod started disappearing from menus in the mid 90s except for a handful of joints.

I’d love to find a place like this and try it out. How was the clod?

i just went there – ribs fantastic ( though beef ribs very beefy). chicken very dry and brisket very dry. better at Rudy’s.

sides not very good choices either

    price: high

    ambience: A+

  7. Places like Kreuz or Louie Mueller have an atmosphere that the craft bbq places won’t ever be able to replicate. That said, I was pretty disappointed with Kreuz when we went. My least favorite was the prime rib.

What food is getting paired with Saltine crackers? LOL Bread I understand for making a legit sandwich. Crackers are for soup.

Love this place. Probably been there more than any other BBQ joint in Texas. The smoked prime rib is 🔥

The sausages look like greasy shits. I know that Texas does bbq but I feel like any number of states and/or countries could chime in on this point. Sausage game is not on point here

Had it, pretty good. Different sides but also good

At those prices, no wonder the place looks empty.

If you go to Smitty’s (Kreuz location for 99 years) you can still see small chains attached to the wall at the entrance where small tables are, these were used for communal steak knives easy back in the day.Kreuz never offered BBQ sauce or knives until recently. Knives are long gone but chains remain at Smitty’s.

We were there the week before last (Spring Break road trip). In all honesty l, the best thing we got there was the hat the kids made me buy. Brisket was ok, sausage had a weird texture and grainy flavor, clad was good enough but seemed really out of place. Only meat that seemed good was the turkey.

The place is awesome because of the experience of walking into the ling hallway down to the smokers. But the food left a lot to be desired.

I ate there last week. Was in town for a closing and took my agent and the buyer. It was ok. The sausage was the best.

One of my favorite spots in Lockhart. Gotta try the beef rib next time you go

Ordering right by the pits is very unique. I was pleasantly surprised by that when I first went.

I haven’t tried the Kreuz jalapeno cheese sausage yet. How was it? Which brands do you like best?
