Is this green stuff ok? I will do a first cook after winter. I believe it's oxidation, but i am afraid i damaged the protective coating. Does a burn off do enough? The grill is new from last summer.
I believe the grate is stainless steel (weber kettle master touch GBS 57 cm) any tips or advice?

Scrub it with a brush, light the coals, and let fire take over. It’s fine.
There isn’t any protective coating as far as I know.
If you know you won’t be using the grill for a while, it helps to do a nice hard burn off before it gets retired.
Cook more and you won’t see that. Additionally, a wire brush is sufficient if your grates are already clean. There’s nothing for broken bristles to stick to, and you can easily see if they somehow do.
I know people have been against using them for years now but I’ve been using a wire brush on all of my cookers for about 40 years without incident. I keep my grates clean so I am not worried.
If you have concerns about bristles, look for something like this(cheesy graphic)

thats mold, there was some humidity trapped in there. Clean it then burn it off
