LODI, Calif. —

Pietro’s, a beloved Italian restaurant in Lodi, is moving to a larger location next week after nearly four decades in its current location.

The longtime location on East Kettleman Lane is set to close Saturday. The new location will open on Rocky Lane.

“I love it, I love it, and I just wish it doesn’t change,” said Frances Plascencia, a customer at Pietro’s.

For another customer, Kristen Coon, the restaurant is more than just a place to eat. It’s become a family tradition.

“It is by far our favorite place to eat. We’re from Valley Springs, and we come down here at least once a week to eat at Pietro’s,” Coon said.

One family celebrated a final birthday at the current location, marking a decade of visits.

“We’ve outgrown our current space,” explained Pete Murdaca, the owner of Pietro’s. “We need more space for our kitchen and more space for our dining, for our customers.”

Plascencia hopes the new location will maintain the same charm.

“I hope it remains the same,” she said. “It’s like this one makes you feel…Oh, you know, it’s by itself.”

Murdaca assured customers that the new location will retain the essence of the original.

“We did not want to lose those fields of what we had on Kettleman Lane. So the whole property is planted with vegetables that we use in the restaurant. There are bigger garden beds out front,” he said.

Coon encouraged new customers to try the new location.

“The next location? Yeah. Give it a shot,” she said. “It’s the best Italian restaurant anywhere. Yeah, and probably a little more exposure over there by Costco, but the food is absolutely wonderful.”

Although it’s a big change, Murdaca expressed excitement for the future.

“We’re just excited to continue on the traditions of what we have on Kettleman Lane and bring them forward for the next 40 years,” he said.

The new location is set to open on Nov. 8.
