More than two months after the owners of Isola Osteria closed their downtown Danville location, there are signs of new life at 100 Railroad Ave. as a new restaurant prepares to debut this week.

Taverna Sorrentina – a nod to the Sorrentino Peninsula in Southern Italy – is set for a soft opening Friday (Nov. 14), when diners will return to the site for the first time since Isola Osteria shuttered on Aug. 30 as the owners of the family restaurant stepped back to take care of their parents.

“The excitement is palpable as we prepare to welcome everyone tomorrow,” Taverna Sorrentina owners said in an Instagram post Thursday.

The owners first debuted their new restaurant to friends and family Wednesday, they said on social media, calling it a “dream come true”. On Thursday, lights were on and doors were open as workers prepared behind the scenes for Friday’s expansion to the general public behind the restaurant’s new signage and a “coming soon” banner outside.

Giovanni Della Peruta, Valerio Piscopo and Rosario Mazzocchi announced their new endeavor aimed at “bringing authentic Italian flavors to Danville” on Instagram Oct. 28. The trio – all born in Southern Italy – are industry veterans who have spent their careers dedicated to restaurants and Italian dining, inspired by their roots.

In addition to sharing roots in Southern Italy, the owners said on Instagram that Danville has helped shape experiences for all three of them since they’ve come to the United States – something they are hoping to give back with the new restaurant.

“My home base is always in Naples, but right now my town is Danville – that’s where I live,” Della Peruta said.

Limited reservations for the soft opening are available from 4-9 p.m. Friday by calling in advance.
