  1. My recipe test of Miss Anne’s hot dog chili sauce from [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Old_Recipes/comments/1obccxp/miss_annes_chili/
). I found it delicious, mild (even with doubling the chili powder) and savory, very tomatoey. Clearly a side sauce, not a chili for a bowl-of-chili, though I’ve eaten it like sloppy joes. I prefer “white hots” to hot dogs, so my writeup reflects this quirk. I also usually cook with ground turkey, if using ground beef go with 91% since there is no “drain the fat” step.

Miss Anne’s Hot Dog Chili Sauce

1 large sweet onion, finely chopped
    1⅓ lb 99% fat-free ground turkey
    ½ stick (4 tbsp) butter
    1 tsp kosher salt
    1 tsp pepper
1 12 oz can tomato paste
    2 cups tomato juice
1 10 oz can tomato soup
    2 tbsp chili powder (I prefer Gebhardt’s)
2 tsp white or brown sugar
    ⋅ ⋅ ⋅
4 white hots (aka “snappy grillers”) or franks
    Hot dog rolls
    American cheese

Brown onion in the butter in a dutch oven.

Add all other ingredients into pot, chopping and mashing the ground turkey. Simmer for 15 minutes.

Add white hots, if using. Simmer for 5 more minutes.

    Or grill franks/white hots separately.

To serve: toast hot dog buns. Open bun, place on plate and cover with 2 slices of American cheese. Place a frank or white hot on top and ladle some chili over it.

    Do recommend.
