This is all to say they’re one of many favorites in the local pizza scene, and so when the couple announced a second shop in San Francisco, fans — myself included — were thrilled. Rose Pizzeria officially opened in the Inner Richmond in April 2026 with more kitchen space than the original and some new additions to the menu. It’s a bit early in Rose’s tenure on Clement Street, I know, but the pies were already pretty dialed in during its first week. As an East Bay resident who’s visited the original shop plenty of times, and has now followed that up with a trip to the new location, here’s what to look for.
It’s still the early days of the San Francisco outpost, so what may stand out most is how busy the dining room is. Walking in, there are both diners waiting for their table and a steady stream of takeout pizzas being carried out. The dining room itself is charming, with checkerboard floors and a beautiful mural filling a wall on the south side of the room. It’s a bigger than the Berkeley outpost (albeit San Francisco doesn’t have a fun outdoor patio), but it’s fun to see the action in the aforementioned large kitchen, which is mostly open to the dining room.
It’s a beer and wine operation here, with wines available by the glass or bottle. The wine selection leans toward natural winemakers from California and Italy, including options from Les Lunes in Richmond and Cantina Margò in Umbria, Italy, as of this writing. There are also dual spritzes — Still Fun is the nonalcoholic option — and a brief selection of soft drinks, if preferred.
The shop in Berkeley doesn’t do modifications, so diners who like a very specific pizza, may be heartened to know you are allowed to mod the cheese pizza at the San Francisco outpost. You’re allowed to choose two toppings, per the menu, and it’s a choice between mushrooms, pepperoni, sausage, red onion, and pickled chiles. If you eat meat, I will tell you that it’s imperative that you add on pepperoni — Rose uses Ezzo pepperoni, which is cuppy and adds a nice dose of saltiness to the pie. And if you are an extremely smart person, my second recommendation would be to add on the pickled chiles, because it’s rare to see a pickled chile as an add-on. The pickled-ness tempers the heat, adding another layer of flavor.
