Ripe watermelons can be eaten any way at any time of day, but watermelon juice with lots of basil and lime juice blended in is terrific in the morning. It is so very simple to make and captures summertime in a glass.

Ingredients

  • 1 small, cold watermelon, rind and seeds removed
  • 4 to 6 basil leaves
  • Juice of ½ lime

    Preparation

    1. Cut the watermelon into quarters, and then roughly chop each quarter into 2-inch pieces.
    2. Fill a blender with watermelon chunks until it is halfway full.
    3. Add the basil and lime juice to the blender.
    4. Cover and pulse on low until the ingredients are mostly incorporated. Once incorporated, blend on high for 10 to 15 seconds.
    5. Serve immediately.
