Preparation

  1. Tear the bread into pieces and place in a mixing bowl. Add milk, turkey, onion, salt and pepper to taste, cloves and nutmeg. Mix well with your hands.
  2. Form the mixture into eight small patties. Make knife cuts on each patty, lengthwise and then crosswise, so they will look as if they were cooked on a grill. Sprinkle grated cheese over the patty tops.
  3. Put oil in a skillet over high heat. Reduce to medium and cook burgers 4 minutes on each side.
  4. Remove burgers from the skillet and set aside on a warm platter. Pour out the oil and add butter to the skillet. Melt, stirring, over medium heat. Add the vinegar and water, stirring and scraping bottom of pan.
  5. Pour the sauce over the turkey burgers and serve.
