We never know what may come our way. Preparing for a couple of days, a week or longer should be first on your mind. Get ready to plant as well! Your garden will be very important this year!

  1. I was up before the chickens had coffee. ☕☕ I have not been able to sleep, for a couple of nights, and what I realized is, the first part of being prepared- is to have a plan! I have "plans," that have been rolling around in my head, and they had to GET-OUT! 😂 Prayer, pen and paper, it all got laid out into stages. Ya know that took a couple of hours, to write it all out. BUT, the great news is, I don't need to dig trenches after I go to bed! PEN TO PAPER..how much room do you have, what would you like to grow? How much room does each thing take? Do you need amendments?

  2. We are always prepared! Always keep powdered and canned milk for baking and can be used for drinking as well in an emergency.

  3. not so sure on weather is done with you ..POW ponder on weather says you may have more headed your way . stay safe ,

  4. Glad you guy's are okay.
Geez .. hotter!? I don't know if I can handle the summers in southeast Texas, I became allergic to the heat and I brake out in hives . Mercy lord .
    Preparing and more Preparing..
    God bless 🙏

  5. I quit buying bread in September last year. I just make it instead. So much more tasty, and WAY cheaper.

  6. TY FOR THIS VIDEO. I HOPE TO SHARE IT TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE…
I GUESSING THE SEEDS THAT WERE UP CAME THRU OKAY FROM THE TEMPS?
    KEEP ON KEEPING ON.

  7. We moved from Texas to northern Vermont last fall. It was minus 23 degrees, with a minus 45 windchill. Our water froze. We have to melt snow to water the cows. My hubby is reconsidering this move! Lol!!!

  8. Hey Jill, Dora here from school. It was beautiful yesterday and boy was it really busy in the Burleson area. I think everyone had cabin fever. The hubs wanted to go check out a store, that was closed the last time he went by. He did take me to the store on Thursday to pickup some sale items. We didn't really have to have anything, but the items were cheaper at this time. And he did run me by another store yesterday to pickup some sale items to stock up on. It's another beautiful day today and will try to work on my container garden today. I already have a few of my seedlings coming up and want to plant some more. But need to make sure I am going to have room to plant them.

  9. I watched a local news channel interview folks out in the ice rink of a WallyWorld parking lot on Day 2 of our latest weather event. I was dumbfounded. To think so many people can't go even three days without hitting up the grocery store is such pain to my soul. I mean, I knew intellectually this is so, but to actually SEE it and hear their voices was just too much.
I made an executive decision. I am moving around my food preservation area, getting my dehydrator and freeze drier and all the stuff that goes with them more organized and so that everything "flows" better for me. Got my canning stuff more organized as well. All my jars and seals, all my trays and bags, all that stuff needed a serious overhaul. I was going to "the back room" for stuff and dragging boxes back and forth all the time. I just thought about it as I crocheted, drew a flowsheet (reworked it over and over) and measured EVERYTHING! It's not really putting food back, but it seemed to me to be an essential part of making it all work. Time and space can be more valuable than another canner load of beans, at least in my world. I've got at least a year of food put back already, and if I'm to continue on I need things around here to make sense and to work as intended. I'm not getting any younger, so toting all those boxes has got to come to an end. Remembering where I stashed some important gadget or replacement part isn't going to get any easier as time passes. Anyway, it's all well underway and should be done by the end of the month. Building some shelving and a few surfaces to hold the weights involved will go a long way to making things look nicer as well as work nicer.
Glad y'all made it through this last tough bit of weather without any serious issues. I'm seeing the same long-range weather predictions you are. I have been working on a little bit of a pivot for my garden plans, so I guess this coming season will be yet another test to check how good a gardener I really am, huh? Told Hubs he might need to work harder at expanding his palate and learning to appreciate different garden products. Picky eaters might not find it easy to get enough to eat if they don't make some concessions going forward.
I love seeing how everyone is doing on the challenge! Got some good hardworking talented folks around here! Much respect to y'all!
    Hugs and belssings.

  10. I think your 365 challenge is awesome. To me, it’s a lifestyle and can never be any different. Had some apples getting soft, so I made some delicious applesauce last night in about 30 minutes… needless to say it’s mostly gone now. God bless

  11. We in the country on the back road where ice in didn't need anything made a swamp stew with hot water cornbread so good, had turn our water off to keep my pipes from freezing had plenty of water, my sweet tooth started acting up made brownies made myself sick:) all here in Oklahoma God bless

  12. One of my all time favorite quotes is chance favors the preparred mind… I'm the only one in my family who preps but I'm the first one people ask for help when stuff happens.

  13. I’m glad y’all doing good Jill because of bad weather and everything else it’s so important to be prepared. I’m starting my pepper seeds next week

  14. We all need to be prepared during these uncertain times. Anything can happen at any moment! So thankful you and your family made it through the storm.

  15. Well hello Jill. Glad your all okay. Must say love your beautiful sweater. We got sleet this last time up N Ar. Finally got our road scraped Thur. Just been home getting caught up on work I turned that in Fri. Hubs worked a little too hard on the snow the week before. Even though my son and I helped he wanted to get it done and put stuff back clean when we got our power back on. So we've been taking it easy and just keeping on. Had everything we need but do need to grab a couple things tomorrow and I want a radish with lunch tomorrow. Take Care.

  16. These ice storms all slid to my south of southern Ohio by maybe 100 miles, but I was ready. You folks did what I always have done days before any intense storms are due where ever I live….prepare. We ended up with rain and light snow/sleet instead of ice. Glad you were prepared. With spring coming fast…..next stuff I keep track are severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes here. I used to live near Wichita Falls, Texas from late 1978 to mid 1979…..been through enough tornadoes. Good video too.

  17. Jill, I remember you when you were just a little thing. This was 'awhile' back when you would come and visit your aunt Jane….how do I know this, I/we lived across the street from Jane. Ahh, small world I guess?? Good to see your vids. Have a good day.

  18. Yeah, it does also make me really sad to learn too many people don't even have 2 days of any kind of food in their cabinets to stick it out in an emergency or just make it to next payday. There is no excuse to not have anything at all, especially if you can afford to eat fast food couple times a week. Sorry, I know times are getting harder, but everyone needs to try. Not TP, bottled water, and chips neither. This makes me even more worried for our country watching this pattern repeating and people not learning. Can't rely on somewhere being open just so you can pick up hot meal. Those employees are in danger going to work too and it's not worth their lives driving to work just so people can have a burger.

  19. The kids made it safely down. I told them to store food. Mamaws not there. They never have saved food. Scares me to death

  20. That’s why I’m canning more meat this weekend. 43 jars to go with my 123 last month. ❤ oh and more beef and chicken bone broth. It’s in the fridge cooling so I can can it up next weekend. My store was pretty low on stock. Scary.

  21. Nice sweater on you Jill! Not at all surprised at the report. We learned a ton about our preparation gaps between the Harvey storm and the 2021 freeze, but if folks aren't better prepared after the "virus shortages" I have to wonder if there is any hope for them. Was so good to see the sun this weekend, we even made it to the beach awhile after church today. Happy to read everyone fared well that was affected and has commented.

  22. Love your hair today! It’s hard to remember everything, but a well stock pantry is necessary. In Texas wait 5 minutes.

  23. If only more people would prepare..those employees did not need to be on the roads either..so happy your Strom is over.. Blessings

  24. Hello Jill, we live in Central Texas- Cameron and we got it bad, no water for 2 days , with trees falling and branches every where . On our property we had branches down and some . The Ice and cold killed all my even crashed through our Green house roof, Even the pecan trees on our property and the neighbors Crashed into our yard. The Weather even killed our herbs. .I am happy that my husband loves to make bread. We suppose to have rains on Tuesday , it was as high as 70 today , Sunday . so hubby and I picked up a chain saw from Tractor supply I ordered and did a few removal of limbs, Still have a few broken and dangling from the Large oak on the patio, just hope they don't crash on us before we figure how to get them down . 25. Has anyone noticed the flour, especially wheat flour, on hand at the stores? Walmart was short, Tom Thumb too. 🤔
And what a beautiful day it was today! I’d rather do a week of winter weather in Texas then months on end back home in Indiana.
Let’s hope we don’t have any more bad weather. I’d like to start planting onions, lettuces, and arugula 😋
God bless y’all, now back to canning. I’ll be freezing and dehydrating 😁

  26. We finally got our power back yesterday around Noonish time. So thankful for the men working during this past Ice storm and still working. Thankful for our generator to keep or fridge and freezer running. And our Big Buddy to keep us warm. All of our trees on our 5 acres took a hit. We transplanted our seedlings into larger pots today. Had to take a bread from picking up all the tree limbs and branches.

  27. Hey Jill we finally got everything cleared up. and wood stacked. This is exactly why we should all try the 365 challenge to make sure we have extra food. I pray we don't have the same hot summer we had last year. Say Hi to Greg and Pop's and God bless, Mike & Rochelle

  28. Good update and good heads up Jill. Thanks.
I was prepared for everything except the heat situation…as soon as the weather is warm enough and I can finish up that propane tank…it's gonna be done. I can handle cold much better than heat though.
Wanted to say I was looking through some of your videos on doing seeds and you were using the little squeeze bottles for ketchup and mustard to water your seeds. I have a pair of those and they are absolutely marvelous for putting a few drops at a time in the containers to keep your seeds moist.
Ok…gotta run. Thanks again for all your help. Jesus bless.

  29. Got the last gallon of cow's milk on Saturday (1% because there was no whole), my husband went today to get more milk and there still wasn't any.

  30. Grateful mine were open..both.
.but Walmart did close early. All I can say is to prepare like the Ant. Proverbs 6 KJV
