I have two of 9 each Click and Grow to grow seed starters. The Click and Grow is only 13 watts, so it doesn't use a lot of energy. Starting from seeds saves me a lot of money too.
Don’t worry about making mistakes or not doing things “properly” in the garden—I’m a Master Gardener and mess up literally all the time! 😂 I like to think gardening is a meditative lesson in accepting failure and loss. Happy gardening! 🪴🌻🌞
Thanks for your vulnerability! You're going to have to wait months for the light blocking to kill off the weeds – though they'll probably die off quicker under the plastic as it'll block out some moisture too. No dig is a brilliant method but not good in a hurry! I've known some plants to need light blocking for a year before they fully die off! You'd probabaly be better off hand weeding one or two beds and start growing in those while the others become less weedy under your covers.
I hope your gardening endeavors are very successful and rewarding. I live in the northeast section of the United States and my battle is always with the deers, rabbits and other critters eating my diligently tended garden. Would you happen to have any natural solutions to keep the animals out of the garden? You and your husband have given this home bound 60 year old, the incentive to try something new. Thank you, Madeleine and Alex.
Save T-rolls, fill with compost, put 2/3 runner beans ( lots of varieties) in each, water and wait for them to sprout then pop into prepared bed. Make a wigwam, from bamboo, and as the bean tendrils grow, tie in and enjoy the lovely display
The one thing about gardening is you will fail as there are so many things out of our control. But that's part of it. Just enjoy the process and mother nature and the only way to learn working with plants is just doing it. I'll be cheering you on!!🍀
1st time commenting, 4 years watching lol sorry! – Maddy I hear you when it comes to gardening and being scared – I was the same way when I did it for the first time last year. I found Laura from the YouTube channel Garden Answers sooo helpful. Look at her veggie garden videos, I only took tips I learned from her so I wouldn’t get overwhelmed. I had great success, annd some failures but that’s ok. Also I’ve learned so much in 1 year, but you have to put the energy into it to know what works and what doesn’t. Plant flowers too, they’ll make you happy with the space! So easy to start from seed. Good luck, we are all rooting (pun lol) for you 🙂
Haven't seen the whole video yet but love you madieee❤❤❤
As long as you provide a decent soil base your vegetables will be very happy and you will soon have an amazing crop.❤
I'm so looking forward to your year of gardening, I hope we see quite a bit of it. It's not practical for me to start seeds right now, because I'll be moving in May, but I'm really looking forward to get started in June and I hope I can still get some delicious veg growing then. I also want to try no dig and got Charles Dowdings book about it on the weekend, I'm quite hyped to get started.
I'm going through a similar process as a beginner to gardening. I think the difference between gardening and other hobbies you mentioned is that your own garden is going to teach you as you start to listen to it. No book can do it and there's no other garden with the exact same needs, lights etc. It gives me so much joy, I hope you are going to enjoy it , too. Maybe some textbook perfect gardening solutions won't work for you, but you are going to find others. 🌿
Love your lip colour in the first clip, it suits you so well with the jumper too. Could you let me know what lip colour it is please x
You could do everything right with gardening and still lose it all to a cold snap or a hungry deer. It’s horrible if you’re relying on it for income and food, but there’s a freedom to not having control.
The best tomatoes and potatoes we grew, we didn’t actually plant. They grew from the compost heap by themselves. Plus the bed got taken over by kale. Holy moley, it went everywhere last year.
I think they are muscari.. like a bluebell.
As a long time gardener, I have realized that gardening is my spiritual, emotional, and physical zen place but it is also my biggest humbling life element. No matter how much I think I know or how well something has gone before, each year teaches me that I am really not in control at all. Some years and some crops are amazing for some things, and then Mother Nature says “unh uh, not this time, not this crop or not this year!” I do no dig, all organic, building microbiome in my soil kind of gardening. I can, preserve, dry or freeze as much as possible. I find it immensely satisfying but also incredibly frustrating at times. Go easy on yourself, don’t try to have a “social media worthy” garden, but one that brings you joy, and feeds your body, soul and senses. Happy Gardening and happy life! Cheers!!
