A fan helps a lot to prevent fungal or mold issues too, but sometimes it's hard having one in a window. 😅
If you want strong stems you can also brush your hand (gently!) through the seedlings mimicing a breeze or rotate them daily. That way they're constantly bending in opposite directions to get to the sun.
I don't have a fan, and my seedlings aren't leggy or weak because I rotate them daily. 😊
I just started some tomato, bell pepper and squash inside in cups and I used the same soil they will be planted in. Should I use some sort of potting soil or will regular soil do?
Plants have backbones like you and I that need to be worked out.. if you leave microgreens or really plants at all inside they don't build up structure without the motion of the wind.
Thank you for the detailed information. But how do you get rid of the lizards in your garden? Lizards eat up most of my newly germinated seedlings. This is horrible and disheartening.
Will this thicken the stem of a plant that’s no longer a seedling, but still living inside? Live in the north so the plants have to live inside for a long time 😅
I've done this for ages. I can't remember where I heard about it. A lot of people don't know about it. I only turn the fan on for 30 minutes, twice a day. It doesn't have to be on 24/7.
Wow, I did not know that !! And, it could be used for seedlings inside that one has to harden off or protect from crazy winter weather in Spring / area of the Southeast mtns.
omg i think this could explain why by shacking every single rice plant in the rice field everyday my aunt can harvest rice more than average farmer in her village. i thought its because the plants just received more love 😂
Is this good for all plants? I want to do my best in taking care of my plants, specifically my indoor ones since they're all I have right now, and if this will help them, I'd like to know so I can do it.

Obligatory "are we trying to cool the whole town?" Dad joke
Wind works !!❤
WoW 😱😱
Learn something new everyday, another rationale for using fans, I use fans, I didn't know it released more growth hormone, thank you for that.
Huh… Now I know why my kitchen seedlings have grown like CRAZY. I've had my overhead fan constantly through my waking hours.
So this why my plants grow faster after a windy rain, like they grow so much over night if theres windy rain(I jare it but my plants seems to love it)
The added benefit of the exhaust fans in a germination chamber, the more you know!
Gardening is expensive enough without having electricity bill on top of it.
That's for the information 😅
Wow, this makes so much sense! Thank you for sharing this knowledge
Love that you shared this♡
I just transplant the seedlings a little deeper, I think it has the same effect
Wow thanks you precious Soul 🙏🏻 would have never thought of this on my own.

I added a fan to my seed starting arsenal this yr and it’s been great 🎉

is there empirical research on this?
I pity the fool who doesn’t know this lol

I always wondered of wind has an effect. Nice
A fan that swivels is best.
Thank you for sharing ..didn't know!!!
I actually had to build individual cages for my plants… we have like 50mph winds lol
Even works great on house plants
Does it run 24/7 or a portion of the day? If it’s a portion of the day, does it matter the time? Morning? Afternoon?
So plants need to work out too
thats a great idea never thought about how the wind does that to seedlings. great tip
Thank you I was forgetting that on my seedlings!!

Its basically a way for them to exercise.
I do this for plants inside and outside. Your indoor plants like it a little ruff, too.
Some seeds start better outside in the soil. Okra is a good example.
Amen.
Nobody else has ever talks about this. And I’ve seen hundreds of gardening videos.

And it increases root growth l so it can hold up in the soil stronger
