Hoping the EGGsperts can help me here. I bought a large egg used to give to a family member. I am rehabbing it, including replacing the badly worn gasket. I use the method Captain Ron does, taking the dome
completely off to make work easier. After I finished, I was having great difficulty reinstalling the Dome. Once the springs were fully engaged, the dome is cracked open about 1/8 of an inch at the front. It was fine before. Any ideas what happened? Is this new gasket too thick? I have 3 other eggs and have replaced many gaskets before and never had this issue, this is a different style hinge from what I’m used to though.

Maybe try taking the springs off, then loosening the tension on the actual bands and see how it sits without springs and without tension on bands then re-tighten the bands with the top and bottom sitting nice and flat then re-add springs

  2. Look into the dollar bill method of setting your bands if you have taken them off and need to adjust them, and you do t have the spacers that come with the egg to set the band spacing. You also need to adjust the bands with the hinge springs off.

The official instructions for the hinge system install says to seat the two halves before tightening the rings. So loosen both the rings for the top and bottom, let it sit flat/adjust, then re-tighten. Make sure you tighten enough that the screw bends.
