18 years with the same large. Internals replaced as needed. Cleaned and moved who knows how many times. Raw dogging sans gaskets. Buddy in Denver is newish egg owner and his shop vac ash cleaning idea blew my mind. Idiot me hit pic vs video but what a genius move. Wish I’d done this…. 18 years ago. Fml.

The fine particles clog the filter pretty quickly, making it less effective for other shop vac use. I like to use the $25 shopvacs that fit on a 5 gallon bucket.

Yeah I knew this from day one. Also I reverse flow to get my coals hot quickly too. I would recommend a KickAsh basket attachment. It has completely changed how I clean my egg, for the better.

I don’t understand the point of removing all the ash to that level of clean. I use wooden tools I made (a small pusher about the size of a 4-inch taping knife and a dustpan to match) to remove ash. I never bother with the coating of fine ash remaining. Am I missing something?

  4. I clean my out the exact same way a few times a year.

I just hit mine with the shop vac on Saturday. I don’t do it often, maybe every 5-7 cooks depending on how long they run. I’ve run my shop vac with vacuum bags for years now, best way to make for easy cleanup and keep the filter clean
