Hi,

I love NYC cocktail bars so I made a map of them. I think this map could be pretty useful for other New Yorkers or people visiting. \*\*Edit – I ranked these bars with the criteria of 75% quality of cocktails offered, 25% vibe. While I love a classic cocktail bar – I really do – I am much more interested and impressed with inventiveness, originality and unique use of ingredients. \*\* Obviously, these are my opinions and I ranked them with the following key:

Gold – Best that NYC has to offer

Orange – Just shy of being one of the best

Green – I would travel/seek out this bar

Silver – I would go here if in the area

Brown – I would not go here again

\———————————————-

Purple – I really want to go

Blue – I want to go

Let me know if I missed any, cheers! (Edit: It is best viewed on a desktop browser) [https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1TlUZN\_41LEj2Y2QX5nxd5f-eqCLPtyRp&usp=sharing](https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1TlUZN_41LEj2Y2QX5nxd5f-eqCLPtyRp&usp=sharing)

  1. I’ve been to Dear Irving on Hudson a few times. The drinks are still good (I’d say pretty much as good as Dear Irving on Gramercy), the views are great, but the service is pretty bad. Drinks often took a long time when it wasn’t very busy and it was pulling teeth to try and get someone’s attention to order another drink. It may be because from what we could see, people often just have one drink and move on, but it’s nice to at least try it.

  2. this is really cool, and one of my fav bars is on here

  3. This is really cool! Thanks for sharing. I see you had The Last Word in Astoria Ditmars. I’ve been, but personally think Mosaic at 25-19 24th Ave has a better vibe. I also liked the cocktails more at Mosiac than The Last Word. But YMMV.

Is that the Polo Bar or the King Cole Bar you have marked there at 55th & 5th?

  5. MajorWhereas4842

Visited Oscar Wilde’s a few weekends ago! Not cheap but cocktails were on point and the ambiance was gloriously trippy!

  6. yotmokar

excuse my french make very good drink also.

  7. Advanced-Insurance87

Attaboy hands down best speakeasy in the city best drinks and vibe as well

  8. Fmbounce

How does the map work? I’m clicking on the pins but nothing pops up

  9. Purpleavenger33

This is great and will def check some of these out! I also really like the Seville underneath the James Nomad as a good one to add!

  10. FFS. Here I was angry about how the post about the best corned beef hash in the city was f’ing up my diet / weigh loss plan … and now I’m going to be both fat and drunk (and that, along with stupid, is no way to go through life son).

  11. If you go up to Honey Well, I’d stop by Bird in Hand and Cocteleria Perla Negra.

On the UWS I personally love Da Capo, and in Brooklyn Heights The Binc. For a happy hour, Crown Alley.

Aw, you didn’t like Goodnight Sonny? We used to do karaoke and then rally there for my husband’s birthday because we have a friend who used to live across the street, and then just for tradition. It’s always crowded but they’re always game to run us any weird shot we ask for and it’s honestly a great place to talk after. We’ve established a number of inside jokes there, but maybe that’s just be bragging about my friends more than actually enjoying the bar. Also, key point, I have never paid for this part of the night so perhaps that’s what’s going on.

Similarly, Subject but I’ve only been there during the pandemic and so I’ve only been outside, freezing my ass off. Honestly really fun and lovely service during the pandemic though, hot toddies and the requisite pb&j because that’s what bars had to do at the time? I had a great time.

And what didn’t you like about Library of Distilled Spirits? I was considering going soon, so I’d love to hear what you thought!

Try hotel delmano in n. williamsburg if you’re ever in the area! casual chill spot with decent cocktails — one of my neighborhood favs.

You have almost an identical top tier to me, it’s uncanny. You must, must go to Sugarmonk in harlem! It’s the only other cocktail bar in the mace/double chicken please tier for me.

  15. Random_Redditor25

Oh wow – this really shows how subjective it is. Some of your ‘would not go’ are some of my faves and I think has a lot of creative cocktails – more so than some of the other higher ranked ones

Is there a way to save this in to my own app or best to just bookmark the web addy?

  17. leporello

    You’re right about midtown… the Campbell’s all we’ve got.

  18. Gravysmilf

Interesting about la noxe I thought it was very pretty cool, what made you add it in brown

  19. Oh wow, I’m surprised at Mister Paradise! I had such a wonderful time – the bartenders were so friendly and approachable and the drinks were incredibly memorable. Plus, the food was good and kind of a steal.
But totally understand everyone has different opinions, of course.
    The list is amazing!

I haven’t been to any of your top tier (yet), but I do love Dutch Kills!

Sunken harbor club will be a gold for you. There’s another newish bar called George bang bang I highly recommend, I consider it a gold as well.

  21. mrfunktastik

Add Gage & Tollner to your Want to Go list, their bar program is also great (but Sunken Harbor Club is much more inventive). Plus you can knock them both out in one visit 😉

Doing the lord’s work here really appreciate what you’ve put together

I hated hated Bar GOTO and Apotheke – what did you like about them?

Sad to see that you didn’t like Patent Pending. Angel’s Share or Martiny’s as much

  23. thats-gold-jerry

Glad to see DCP getting the right color 😉

  24. bionicwaffle002

Aw I love Yours Sincerely! I’m a sucker for a cocktail on tap…or a cocktail in a beaker. Lol. Despite us disagreeing there, Fresh Kills is definitely worth its purple designation. You gotta go. They make something for you based on what kinds of flavors and feelings you’re craving. Pretty space too.

  25. PerformerOwn5860

Dutch Kills was a dope spot next to my hotel during my last NYC visit. Been telling my friend in Greenpoint that he needs to take the few minute commute to check it out.

Glad to see you hold it in the same regard!

  26. grooveman15

This is pretty spot on – you’ll dig Long Island Bar (great burger to eat with your rock-solid martini). But you should check out Bohemian Bar across the street from it too. Some really fun drinks and gorgeous bar

Recommend Prohibition on 84th and Columbus, fantastic cocktails.

  28. why_squ1rtle

i kinda hate cocktails but if its a good negroni i would dabble. i miss when there used to b a cider bar in les

  29. forceghost187

Am I viewing it wrong, I don’t see any gold ones?

Check out Shaka Shaka Tiki in Prospect Heights

  30. claudia6499

Agree with your gold recommendations! You might like public rooftop, edition lobby bar, or hotel chelsea lobby bar for drinks 🙂

  31. Looks like we have very similar tastes (including re: the sad decline of Angel’s Share). Judging from your Golds, you should prioritize Moga, Gage and Tollner and Seoul Salon. Would add Spygold to the list.

  32. AnxiousSsam

At first glance I thought 230 fifth was gold… phew!

  33. Dangerous-Disk5155

Lena’s – it is across from Attaboy. Not pretentious, drinks are solid and the bartenders are brilliant (serving seating mixing and chatting). To me, this is what a NYC bar should be. Attaboy may make technically sound drinks but that’s not a bar environment, there is no pressure no stress it’s quiet.
