A memorial with flowers and origami cranes was visible Monday near the place where a longtime chef at Nobu Malibu was killed when a 16-year-old boy allegedly drove a Range Rover SUV into his parked vehicle on Pacific Coast Highway.<\/p>\n
The crash occurred at about 7 a.m. Saturday in the 22600 block of Pacific Coast Highway, according to a watch commander at the Los Angeles County Sheriff\u2019s Department\u2019s Lost Hills\/Malibu station.<\/p>\n
Ryo Uchimiya, 51, died from multiple blunt-force injuries, the Los Angeles County medical examiner\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n
According to reports, Uchimiya worked as a sushi chef for more than two decades at Nobu Malibu, an acclaimed Japanese restaurant near the crash site.<\/p>\n
Surveillance video showed a dark-colored Range Rover SUV plow into the vehicle Uchimiya was in, forcing it into another parked vehicle.<\/p>\n
According to the California Post, DMV records showed that the Range Rover is leased to English composer Harry Gregson-Williams, whose film credits include \u201cThe Martian,\u201d \u201cGladiator II,\u201d \u201cShrek,\u201d \u201cThe Chronicles of Narnia\u201d and the recent Ridley Scott-directed movie \u201cThe Dog Stars.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis family is grieving just as the other family,\u201d Gregson-Williams told the newspaper, which reported that the teen driver\u2019s connection to the composer remained unclear.<\/p>\n
Reports indicate the driver was a 16-year-old boy who was going at least 50 mph when he swerved across the \u201cfog line\u201d on PCH \u2014 the white line separating the roadway from the shoulder \u2014 and struck a parked vehicle.<\/p>\n
It was unclear what caused the motorist to swerve.<\/p>\n
