Bar Ol\u00e9 might have opened on Friday the 13th this month, but they\u2019ve had nothing but luck so far as the community revels in the new venue spicing up Applecross, with more to come.<\/p>\n

The new seasonal tapas restaurant was at capacity on its opening night as locals flocked to experience the latest dining venture, soon to be joined by The Heart, an upscale pub opening in May.<\/p>\n

Co-owner Ryan Esqulant said this was the beginning of his vision for a new \u201centertainment precinct\u201d for Applecross.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s at the bottom of an apartment block called Riviere, with a beautiful view of the foreshore,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m trying to do a new entertainment precinct here. We\u2019ll have Bar Ol\u00e9, which is Spanish tapas, and then The Heart will be the pub.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll have an Italian offering, a grill, and a Japanese-style menu, which we named UBON.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy wife and I looked around Applecross, and there\u2019s just not that much of an offering. What we do, there\u2019s nothing like it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bar Ol\u00e9 serves Spanish inspired tapas led by head chef Mattia Gattini, with signature dishes such as paella, chorizo and fresh local seafood designed to be shared.<\/p>\n

Sister venue The Heart will offer classic pub fare, an Italian pizza oven and Japanese cuisine, forming a unique dining experience that provides \u201csomething for everyone\u201d.<\/p>\n

The 800sqm Canning Beach Road site was originally marked for smaller units, but Mr Esqulant said he amalgamated the land to create space for the restaurants, which are more aligned to community needs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe apartment blocks going up and high-density living here is insane. It\u2019s becoming a mini satellite city here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople need more offerings, and hopefully we\u2019ll deliver. They need that community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bar Ol\u00e9 is licensed for 240 people, and Mr Esqulant said they are hopeful The Heart will be licensed for 300 to 400.<\/p>\n

He said the community response so far has been \u201cunbelievable\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been getting \u2018thank yous\u2019 for bringing something new and vibrant to Applecross,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople who have been here 40-odd years are saying it\u2019s just what they needed, and with the views we\u2019ve got it\u2019s absolutely breath-taking. We\u2019re very lucky.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Esqulant is also the co-founder of the family-run hospitality group ELG Australia, alongside his wife Nikki.<\/p>\n

Bar Ol\u00e9 is the sixth addition to their portfolio, which also includes Hillarys Beach Club, Bar Ol\u00e9 Iluka, Yanchep Beach Club and summer pop up, and Sorrento Beach Club.<\/p>\n

Bar Ol\u00e9 and The Heart mark ELG Australia\u2019s debut south of the river.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the main business requirements is a view,\u201d Mr Esqulant said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur places up north have all got amazing views of the Indian Ocean, and now we\u2019ve got a beautiful view of the Swan River.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Esqulant said ELG Australia is cooking up more ideas for the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s an influx of new people coming to WA, it\u2019s such a young State with a lot to offer,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
