Among the changes they made is that they moved the kitchen upstairs and added an interior staircase. However, they have been looking to keep the same atmosphere with live music.

“Everybody that comes over from the surrounding campgrounds, state park and beach houses, they all mention that they used to come in the Flying Harpoon, and we’ve had a lot of compliments from them as well,” Spence said.

For seafood lovers, Driftwood has all you need, ranging from platters to po’ boys to fish and shrimp tacos. Of course, they also serve oysters both raw and baked. Outside of the seafood, they offer fresh wings made in-house every morning that Spence says sells out just about every day.

They also serve cocktails and beverages such as their take on the classic Bushwacker, martinis and a black walnut old-fashioned, which is made with Bulleit bourbon and black walnut bitters.

“We really appreciate all the local support,” Spence said about the venture, which has been open since May. “We see a lot of the same faces that we see over at Duck’s Diner. They come over here and see us, and we really appreciate it.”

Driftwood Oyster Bar is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight.

ORANGE BEACH — Driftwood Oyster Bar has opened in the former spot of an old favorite in Orange Beach.
