(WHTM) &#8212; A local seafood restaurant in York County suddenly closed its doors earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Anchor Down Crab House, located at 6486 Lincoln Highway West in Thomasville, announced on the evening of Wednesday, September 3, that it has closed its doors effective immediately.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">[sailthru_widget name=&#8221;Sailthru Widget Block&#8221; sailthru_list=&#8221;Local Business Beat&#8221; title=&#8221;Local Business Beat&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;Effective immediately, Anchordown Crabhouse has closed its doors,&#8221; the owners shared on Facebook. &#8220;We want to take a moment to thank this incredible community for your support over the years \u2014 your loyalty and encouragement have meant more to us than words can express.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In a separate announcement, the owners, who took over the seafood restaurant in April 2025, explained that food and operational costs posed a challenge that eventually pushed them towards closing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;I know the closing happened quickly, and I understand that caught some people off guard. It wasn&#8217;t how we wanted things to end, either,&#8221; Anchor Down Crab House added. &#8220;There&#8217;s really no good way to make a decision like this, especially when you have employees and people you&#8217;ve gotten to know personally who are affected by it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to Anchor Down Crab House, they currently plan to list the property itself for sale with Rock Commercial Real Estate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;It&#8217;s a great property with a lot of history, and hopefully somebody else sees an opportunity there and takes it in a new direction,&#8221; Anchor Down Crab House explained. &#8220;We&#8217;d love to see someone come in and make it successful and keep that property as a part of the community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Moving forward, any customers with outstanding Anchor Down Crab House gift cards are encouraged to call (717) 216-0178.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">This is a developing story.
