{"id":27670,"date":"2026-09-16T10:39:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-16T10:39:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.diningandcooking.com\/restaurants\/27670\/"},"modified":"2026-09-16T10:39:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-16T10:39:09","slug":"overland-park-sushi-restaurant-has-employees-on-alert-after-measles-exposure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.diningandcooking.com\/restaurants\/27670\/","title":{"rendered":"Overland Park sushi restaurant has employees on alert after measles exposure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Kyoto Sushi &amp; Steak, one of three locations in the Kansas City metro confirmed to be exposed to a measles case last week, said no employees have reported any symptoms associated with the disease.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In a social media post Monday evening, the restaurant said health officials had confirmed that a person with the measles had visited the restaurant around noon on Monday, Sept. 7.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The restaurant said employees who worked that day were vaccinated against the disease and being monitored. As of Monday evening, none had measles-related symptoms, the restaurant said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;As an additional precaution, we have thoroughly disinfected the entire dining area and instructed all staff to immediately notify management if they develop any symptoms,&#8221; the restaurant said. &#8220;We are taking this situation seriously and will continue to follow the guidance of the Health Department.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Jackson County Public Health officials said a person with a confirmed case of the measles was in its Lee&#8217;s Summit building at 3651 NE Ralph Powell Road from 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Sept. 8, and from noon to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10. Health officials also said the person visited two businesses in Overland Park on Monday, Sept. 7: Kyoto Sushi and Steak, at 6792 W. 135th Street, from noon to 4:30 p.m., and Pan-Asia Supermarket, at 12035 Metcalf Ave., from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">People who were present at the three locations are considered possibly exposed and are asked to monitor their symptoms for 21 days after exposure and contact health authorities if symptoms develop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Measles symptoms typically appear within one to two weeks and can include a high fever, a cough, runny nose and red eyes, white dots inside the mouth and a rash that starts on the face and spreads down the body, health officials said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Jackson County Public Health has established a measles hotline people can call with questions: 816-404-9889.
