SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – Two new restaurants are opening at Eddy Street Commons in October: CAVA, a Mediterranean spot, and Osteria Amici, a Northern Italian eatery.<\/p>\n
CAVA opens on Sunday and will be operating from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. <\/p>\n
Osteria Amici opens later in October. It will operate from 4-10 p.m. on weekdays and close at midnight on weekends.<\/p>\n
According to Alex Gomez, area leader for CAVA, the restaurant has over a billion combinations that customers can make with their food.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe opened our first one up here in Mishawaka a few months ago, and we are excited to bring another one to the table here in South Bend,\u201d Gomez said.<\/p>\n
Matthew Soutra, vice president of Navarre Hospitality Group, said that Osteria Amici is about a week and a half away from its opening date. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe opened our first location in Elkhart, and it\u2019s been very successful. The response from the community has been great,\u201d Soutra said. \u201cWe always thought South Bend would be a great location for it.\u201d <\/p>\n
With Eddy Street\u2019s recently changed closing hours, all businesses are required to close by midnight. <\/p>\n
Soutra said he is still excited for Osteria Amici to come to the area. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s unfortunate that it had to happen, that the businesses are closing at midnight,\u201d Soutra said. \u201cBut we totally understand where the landlord and everyone\u2019s coming from, that ultimately public safety is the top priority.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gomez also expressed excitement for CAVA\u2019s opening despite the new rule. <\/p>\n
\u201cOur mission is to bring heart, health and humanity to food, and we intend to do that,\u201d Gomez said. \u201cWe met with some of the community leaders, and they\u2019ve reassured us, and I think that we\u2019re in an awesome place.\u201d<\/p>\n
Residents have expressed mixed views about the new closing hours. <\/p>\n
WNDU spoke with some Eddy Street employees off camera, who voiced concerns about potentially losing revenue with hours being cut. <\/p>\n
Eddy Street continues to grow as it adjusting to the new changes.<\/p>\n
