On Friday, Sept. 11, Texas-based Whole Foods Market recalled its two Cabricharme cheese product because they contain egg lysozyme, a protein derived from egg whites that was not listed on the product label.<\/p>\n
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the undeclared allergen could pose a serious health risk to people with an egg allergy.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product,\u201d the FDA said in its Sept. 11 recall notice.<\/p>\n
No illnesses had been reported as of the recall announcement, according to the FDA.<\/p>\n

The recalled cheese was sold at 18 Whole Foods Market stores in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island, according to the FDA.<\/p>\n

If you purchased the recalled cheese, do not eat it.<\/p>\n
\u201cCustomers who purchased the product do not need to return it but are urged to destroy it,\u201d the FDA said. \u201cAnyone who purchased the affected product may obtain a full refund with a valid receipt from place of purchase.\u201d<\/p>\n
