We cull through inspections that happen weekly and spotlight places ordered shut for violations such as improper food temperatures or cockroaches.<\/p>\n<p>Any restaurant that fails a state inspection must stay closed until it passes a follow-up. (But please don\u2019t contact us: the Sun Sentinel doesn\u2019t inspect restaurants.)<\/p>\n<p>Broward County<\/p>\n<p>H\u00e4agen-Dazs (inside Sawgrass Mills)<\/p>\n<p>12801 W. Sunrise Blvd., Sunrise<\/p>\n<p>Ordered shut: July 29<\/p>\n<p>Why: Seven violations (three high-priority), including:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 11 live roaches in preparation area \u201cin trash bag under triple sinks,\u201d \u201cunder vacuum cleaner stored under triple sinks\u201d and \u201ccrawling under triple sinks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 About 10 dead roaches \u201cin sticky traps under triple sinks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 \u201cEmployee failed to wash hands before putting on gloves to initiate a task working with food. Employee put on gloves after using personal phone. Employee proceeded to get a cup to serve drinks to guests without first washing hands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Status: Reopened July 30 after a follow-up inspection found three violations (one high-priority). A follow-up inspection was required.<\/p>\n<p>Rendez-Vous Bakery and Bistro<\/p>\n<p>1576 E. Oakland Park Blvd., Oakland Park<\/p>\n<p>Ordered shut: July 27<\/p>\n<p>Why: 10 violations (three high-priority), including:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 About five rodent droppings \u201con dry storage shelf next to dry pancake mix\u201d and \u201con top of box of pancake mix.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 One live roach \u201cunder dry storage shelving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Five dead roaches \u201cnext to front-counter ice machine,\u201d \u201cunder dish machine\u201d and \u201cunder dry storage shelving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 \u00a0Time\/temperature issues involved cheese and milk.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 \u201cFloor soiled\/has accumulation of debris\u201d in multiple areas, including \u201cunder dry storage shelving,\u201d \u201cunder triple sink and dish machine,\u201d and \u201cbehind booths along front windows.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Status: Reopened July 28 after a next-day visit found two intermediate and basic violations.<\/p>\n<p>Lucky Cat Street Eatery\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>6322 N. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale<\/p>\n<p>Ordered shut: July 28<\/p>\n<p>Why: 13 violations (nine high-priority), including:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 About 10 roaches \u201ccrawling on the floor on wall behind reach-in freezer, under reach-in freezer on cook line next to cooler with food.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0\u201cOperator left kitchen area into dining room \u2026 touched dirty surfaces then touched face, then [put on] gloves and started to make food without washing hands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Raw fish stored over cooked salmon, \u201craw shell eggs over cooked chicken\u201d and \u201craw chicken over cooked chicken wontons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Stop sale ordered for cooked bamboo, raw breaded chicken, hard-boiled eggs and pork-stuffed bun \u201cdue to temperature abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Time\/temperature issues also involved raw tuna, cream cheese, raw salmon, raw shrimp, raw beef, eel, cooked rice, cooked noodles, cooked pork and cooked chicken.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 \u201cClorox wipes [stored] next to sauces and on top of sodas on expo side.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Status: Reopened July 29 after a reinspection found no violations.<\/p>\n<p>Gourmet Creole Caribbean Restaurant\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>416 NE 36th St., Pompano Beach<\/p>\n<p>Ordered shut: July 27<\/p>\n<p>Why: 13 violations (three high-priority), including:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 About 35 rodent droppings in dry storage area \u201con floor behind fridge\u201d and \u201con food storage container packing on bottom shelf of food prep table next to fridge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 About 20 dead roaches \u201con glue board on floor in closet\u201d and \u201con a glue board under food prep table next to fridge in dry storage area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Stop sale ordered for cooked chicken, cooked beef and pikliz \u201cdue to temperature abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Time\/temperature issue also involved black beans.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 \u201cObserved buildup of spilled dry rice and beans on floors and under tables and equipment in dry storage area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Status: Reopened July 28 after a second visit found four basic violations.<\/p>\n<p>Palm Beach County<\/p>\n<p>Brass Monkey Sports Bar &amp; Grill<\/p>\n<p>7781 Lake Worth Road, Lake Worth<\/p>\n<p>Ordered shut: July 28<\/p>\n<p>Why: 12 violations (eight high-priority), including:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 About seven rodent droppings \u201cunder dishwasher across from soda bibs\u201d and \u201cunder shelf where clean dishes and pans are stored in kitchen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 About 13 dead roaches \u201cbeside dry storage rack where clean plates and pans are stored in kitchen,\u201d \u201cin the back of flip-top cooler unit on cook line\u201d and \u201cbehind water heater in chemical storage closet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Stop sale ordered for cooked potatoes and diced tomatoes \u201cdue to temperature abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Stop sale also ordered for clam chowder and gravy because they were \u201cmarked with a date that exceeds 7 days after opening\/preparation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Time\/temperature issues also involved sliced tomatoes, heavy cream, au jus, chili, French onion soup and cooked chicken.<\/p>\n<p>Status: Reopened July 29 after a reinspection found three violations (two high-priority). A follow-up inspection was required.<\/p>\n<p>Seabra Bakery &amp; Caf\u00e9<\/p>\n<p>465-475 NE Spanish River Blvd., Boca Raton<\/p>\n<p>Ordered shut: July 27<\/p>\n<p>Why: 21 violations (12 high-priority), including:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 About 25 live flies \u201cat dry storage used for flour and other canned foods, not landing\u201d and \u201cat cook line, not landing\u201d; they were also seen \u201cat front counter landing on fresh juice squeezer,\u201d \u201clanding on the paper towel dispenser at handwash sink\u201d and \u201clanding on baked cakes by walk-in cooler,\u201d among other areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 About four live ants \u201ccrawling on fresh fruit-squeezing machine at front counter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 About six spiders \u201con the ceiling in dry storage used to store flour and other canned foods.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 \u201cObserved employee numerous times cracking raw shell eggs and touching clean utensils and plates before changing gloves and washing hands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 \u201cObserved employee doing dishes in the three-compartment by cook line [then switch] to working with foods without washing hands first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 \u201cEmployee doing dishes manually and not properly rinsing and sanitizing them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Stop sale ordered for \u201cpans with cake on the speed rack by walk-in cooler\u201d because of flies landing on them.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Time\/temperature issues involved sliced cheese, cheese pie, fried chicken, cooked chicken and raw shell eggs.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 No time marking on cheese balls, potato balls and empanadas \u201cin the display case at front counter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Status: Reopened July 28 after a next-day visit found one intermediate violation.
