{"id":17238,"date":"2026-09-18T03:55:57","date_gmt":"2026-09-18T03:55:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.diningandcooking.com\/us\/17238\/"},"modified":"2026-09-18T03:55:57","modified_gmt":"2026-09-18T03:55:57","slug":"scad-and-second-harvest-celebrate-mobile-grocery-store-hitting-the-streets-of-savannah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.diningandcooking.com\/us\/17238\/","title":{"rendered":"SCAD and Second Harvest celebrate mobile grocery store hitting the streets of Savannah"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SCAD and Second Harvest celebrate mobile grocery store hitting the streets of Savannah<\/p>\n<p>Expands access to fresh produce, dairy, and protein in neighborhoods lacking convenient grocery options<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.diningandcooking.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/56b5c803-e0a2-46d0-8e84-6ae991558232_1787598643.file.png\" width=\"48\" height=\"48\" alt=\"Frank Sulkowski\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>SAVANNAH, Ga. \u2014<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"0\">The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia are hitting the streets to bring healthy, affordable food directly to communities that lack convenient access to traditional grocery stores.<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"1\">SCAD and Second Harvest celebrating the completion of the first mobile grocery store in southeast Georgia. <\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"2\">Representatives and project organizers made a stop at WJCL 22 News Monday morning to talk about the new initiative.<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"3\">Miriam Langley, CEO for Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia and Scott Linzey, Vice President for SCAD SERVE joined SCAD Graphic Design senior Alex Murcia in studio Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"5\">Funded by a $700,000 SCAD SERVE Community Fund grant and operational and product support from Kroger, the new &#8216;MoGro&#8217; mobile grocery store will offer healthy options such as fresh produce, dairy, and protein to communities throughout Chatham County where full-service grocery stores are scarce, including low-income urban and rural areas. <\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"6\">With convenient neighborhood stops and acceptance of credit, debit, and EBT cards, the mobile grocery ensures families, seniors, and those with limited mobility can access nutritious meals without the barrier of distance.<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"7\">\u201cMoGro is the result of a year-long collaborative effort to bring this vision to life,&#8221; said Miriam Langley, CEO for Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia.  By bringing a mobile grocery store directly into underserved areas, we\u2019re not only improving access to food\u2014we\u2019re creating opportunity, connection, and healthier futures for our neighbors. Together, we are breaking down barriers like distance and transportation to ensure every community has access to fresh, nutritious food.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"8\">MoGro was brought to life through a refrigerated tractor-trailer funded by the grant, along with creative branding developed by students in a SCAD SERVE Design for Good course in collaboration with a SCAD graphic design alumna who works at Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia. Together, they created the store\u2019s name, logo, and vibrant interior and exterior graphics. <\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"9\">The SCAD SERVE Community Fund supports organizations like Second Harvest that address critical community needs, including food, shelter, safety, and education, in the university\u2019s hometowns of Savannah and Atlanta. <\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"10\"> \u201cOnce again, the creative genius of SCAD students translates into measurable impact for our beloved hometowns,\u201d said SCAD founder Paula Wallace. \u201cThe mobile grocery store we\u2019ve designed will truly change lives. Our SCAD SERVE Community Fund is honored to partner with Second Harvest and Kroger to meet families where they live and nourish our neighbors across Coastal Georgia.
