DETROIT – Two Detroit restaurants have received some big national praise as they have been listed alongside some of the top eateries in the country.<\/p>\n
One is a newly opened taqueria and the other is known for its Polish cuisine.<\/p>\n
They are listed in the New York Times 50 Favorite Restaurants in the United States list.<\/p>\n
One of them is Rose\u2019s Fine Food at 10551 E. Jefferson Ave., which used to be an old-fashioned diner, but the owner reopened it last year as a Polish restaurant.<\/p>\n
The only other Michigan restaurant to make the New York Times list is Tacos Wuey at 3970 Vernor Hwy.<\/p>\n
For its 2026 list, the New York Times says it sent a scouting team of 16 people to dine at restaurants all over the country, \u201cWe ate in all kinds of places, from small-town Wisconsin to downtown Manhattan.\u201d<\/p>\n
The New York Times says its 50 restaurants are not ranked and if one was on a list in previous years, it won\u2019t be on this new one.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany have opened since we finished reporting last year\u2019s list. Some are just weeks old, already great but very much still becoming themselves. Others are decades old, and perfectly seasoned.\u201d<\/p>\n
The owner of Rose\u2019s told WXYZ-TV Detroit that she was surprised when learning her restaurant made the list.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey don\u2019t tell you. They did ask us for some information, but they didn\u2019t tell us what it was for,\u201d Molly Mitchell told WXYZ. \u201cSo it was definitely a surprise and a very pleasant one. I\u2019m very excited.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chef Eddie Vargas from Tacos Wuey says he\u2019s proud his family\u2019s recipes have received this recognition from the New York Times.<\/p>\n
\u201cFood runs in my family,\u201d Chef Vargas told WXYZ. \u201cMy grandparents were taqueros in Mexico, Jalisco, so I\u2019ve always cooked at home.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tacos Wuey is open Monday – Thursday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.<\/p>\n
Rose\u2019s is open Wednesday through Monday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. It\u2019s closed on Tuesdays.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
