The Greenpoint Fish & Lobster/Rounders team turned the 560 Manhattan Avenue at Driggs Avenue address into a new restaurant and bar, Matches — in honor of Bar Matchless, which ran for 15 years until it closed in 2023 — on Friday, August 14. Greenpoint Fish & Lobster actually took over shuttered restaurant Bar Bruno, which had locations here and in Carroll Gardens. The team reopened the latter in April and opted to turn the Greenpoint one into something new. A staffer tells Eater that, later on, Matches will have a late-night menu and there are plans to host dancing with a disco ball and DJ sets eventually. — NC

Last week, New York City Council passed some bills to let restaurants keep their outdoor dining sheds up throughout the year — instead of the current law that only lets restaurants build out their roadway dining structures on April 1 and take them down by November 30. The new bills also allow restaurants to retain structures during the winter with warming elements, as well as create more manageable fees and payment structures. Earlier this summer, Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration put together several proposed amendments that’ll make the outdoor dining application process easier for restaurants, which will be on the ballot in November. — NC

Yet another fire in an NYC restaurant

Because of a fire inside Ridgewood restaurant Rolo’s wine cellar on Saturday, August 1, most of its wines were ruined.
