The variety of dishes and the breadth of ingredients and flavours is really quite something. Luckily, you don’t need to board a plane to get a taste of it, London’s rich Georgian restaurant scene is more than up to the job.

Georgian cuisine is super varied, ticking a lot of boxes. From spiced kebabs to herby broths to fresh salads and mountains of cheese, it’s flavour bomb central. Khinkali is the most famous dish: twisted dumplings filled with meat, fish or veg, with a mouthful of hot broth hidden inside.

Then there’s the wine. Georgia is widely recognised as the birthplace of wine, with archaeological evidence suggesting winemaking activities date back 8,000 years. Since then, they’ve been knocking out low intervention “amber” (orange) wines, aged in qvevri underground. And now London is wanting in, Georgian bottles are a regular fixture on lists across the capital. Pheasant’s Tears is the current go-to producer for hipster bars, while Peckham Cellars is even dedicating an entire month to the nation’s wine.

Want some food, wine and supra good times?
