Two San Francisco restaurants are among the magazine\u2019s top new restaurants in the country: trendy pizza destination Jules and Mexican fine dining eatery Maria Isabel.<\/p>\n<p>Jules, which opened in the Lower Haight in May 2025, quickly became one of the toughest reservations in San Francisco. Former Tartine Bakery culinary director\u00a0Max Blachman-Gentile grew a devoted following for his maximally flavored, New York-meets-California-style sourdough pizzas, which were originally sold at pop-ups.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis crusts straddle pizza styles, boasting a substantial crunchy exterior, the insides slightly chewy, topped with ingredients not often partnered but which get along so famously they could be old friends,\u201d Bon App\u00e9tit wrote, praising the restaurant\u2019s Fun Guy, a mushroom, black garlic and tamarind sauce pizza, as well as the Fiona\u2019s Destiny, a pizza topped with burnt scallion cr\u00e8me fra\u00eeche, pickled shallots, spring onions and Funyuns.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHonored to be on this list with so many restaurants that inspire us!!\u201d read a post shared on Jules\u2019 Instagram story on Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Laura Ozyilmaz and Sayat Ozyilmaz, the fine dining couple behind Dalida, opened Maria Isabel in March. The Lower Pacific Heights restaurant pays homage to Laura\u2019s upbringing in Mexico\u2019s coastal\u00a0Guerrero state with a seafood-forward menu anchored by\u00a0house-nixtamalized corn masa. \u201cThe tamal is Laura\u2019s platonic ideal of the dish: puffy and airy, light and delicate enough to melt a bit on your tongue, dotted with unctuous Santa Barbara sea urchin and drenched in a foamy corn crema,\u201d Bon\u00a0App\u00e9tit wrote. The magazine also praised the restaurant\u2019s lamb ribs\u00a0barbacoa with made-to-order tortillas and the bar menu of cocktails crafted\u00a0with Mexican-made spirits.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The only other California spots on the 2026 Bon App\u00e9tit list were Broken Spanish Comedor in Los Angeles (the reincarnation of chef Ray Garcia\u2019s original restaurant Broken Spanish) and refined wood-fired restaurant Little Mountain in\u00a0Montecito.
