The new system features 719 rooftop solar panels and is expected to generate approximately 546,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. The array is projected to offset approximately 60% of the Milford facility’s annual electricity usage, resulting in an estimated $37,342.92 in annual utility savings. Over the life of the system, those savings are expected to exceed $2 million.

“At the Food Bank of Delaware, we believe every resource should be used as wisely as possible to maximize our impact,” Cathy Kanefsky, President and CEO of the Food Bank of Delaware, said in a prepared statement. “This solar array is much more than an investment in renewable energy—it’s an investment in our mission. By reducing our utility costs, we can redirect millions of dollars over time toward providing nutritious food, expanding workforce development opportunities and helping more Delaware families move toward stability and self-sufficiency. We are deeply grateful to Energize Delaware for making this project possible.”

The solar project reflects a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and strengthening communities across Delaware.

“Energize Delaware is proud to partner with organizations like the Food Bank of Delaware that create lasting benefits for our communities,” Drew Slater, Executive Director of Energize Delaware, said. “By investing in energy-efficient and renewable energy projects, we’re helping nonprofit organizations reduce operating expenses so they can focus more of their resources on serving people. This project demonstrates how clean energy can strengthen both our environment and the vital community services Delawareans depend on.”

The rooftop solar array was designed and installed by CMI Solar & Electric, which specializes in commercial renewable energy solutions.

“This project was designed to maximize the available roof space while delivering long-term performance and reliability,” Dale Davis of CMI Solar & Electric said. “The 719-panel system is engineered to generate approximately 546,000 kilowatt-hours of clean electricity each year, significantly reducing the facility’s dependence on grid power.
