{"id":46905,"date":"2026-10-08T14:13:09","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T14:13:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.diningandcooking.com\/us\/46905\/"},"modified":"2026-10-08T14:13:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T14:13:09","slug":"zohran-mamdani-ate-at-nyc-palestinian-restaurant-on-oct-7-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.diningandcooking.com\/us\/46905\/","title":{"rendered":"Zohran Mamdani ate at NYC Palestinian restaurant on Oct. 7 anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani dined at a Palestinian restaurant chain blasted for being \u201copenly genocidal\u201d against Jews on the third anniversary of the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks in Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Hizzoner ate dinner at Ayat Hinds Hall on the Upper West Side \u2014 part of a chain whose sister restaurant in Brooklyn was blasted for featuring a menu section entitled \u201cFrom the River to the Sea,\u201d in the wake of the 2023 attacks.<\/p>\n<p>The restaurant is named after Hind Rajab, a five-year-old Palestinian child who was killed by IDF forces in Gaza in Jan. 2024, and also pays homage to the anti-Israel protesters at Columbia University, who renamed Hamilton Hall \u201cHind\u2019s Hall\u201d when they took over the building.<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani has dinner at Ayat NYC, a Palestinian restaurant, in New York, Oct. 7, 2026. Christopher Sadowski for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>In Dec. 2023, the Middle Eastern eatery made headlines when its menu was blasted by critics for being\u00a0 \u201copenly genocidal\u201d despite owners Abdul Elenani and Ayat Masoud insisting they were not calling for the eradication of Israel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom the river to the sea\u201d is deemed an antisemitic call for the destruction of the Jewish state by the Anti-Defamation League, and is a favorite chant for anti-Israel activists.<\/p>\n<p>Elenani told the Post at the time that the slogan had been on the menu for months before the Oct. 7 attacks and that since then he had been receiving daily death threats.<\/p>\n<p>He said he supported a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine and condemned the violence on both sides.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t clear who Mamdani was dining with, but the meal was a respite from the barrage of heckles and boos he received from anti-Israeli protesters who believed he turned his back on the Palestinian cause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cZohran you can\u2019t hide, we charge you with genocide,\u201d the outraged protesters yelled in unison at the stone-faced mayor at a vigil to honor Jewish victims killed by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7 and the Palestinians killed in the subsequent war.<\/p>\n<p>Ayat Masou and husband Abdul Elenani\u2019s Ayat Hinds Hall is named after Hind Rajab, a five-year-old Palestinian child who was killed by IDF forces in Gaza in Jan. 2024. @Amasoud11<\/p>\n<p>In Dec. 2023 Elenani and Masoud insisted they were not calling for the eradication of Israel. ayat.nyc \/ Instagram<\/p>\n<p>As soon as the mayor stepped outside of the restaurant Wednesday night, the insults continued.<\/p>\n<p>One masked activist who had been waiting for the mayor outside ran up to his car and shouted: \u201cStop being a f\u2014king traitor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another activist called Mamdani a \u201cboot licker\u201d and demanded he \u201cstand up for people [facing] genocide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hizzoner\u2019s security team had to hold the irate protesters back.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani dined at a Palestinian restaurant chain blasted for being \u201copenly genocidal\u201d against Jews on the third anniversary of the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks in Israel.
