I loved visiting its museums and historical sites, and I’ll never forget trying delectable, fresh peaches on a visit to its orchards. Now there’s even more to do in my favorite spot in the Texas Hill Country.

Some new creative lodging options

Accommodations in Fredericksburg are already plentiful and creative, but there’s always room for more. Station on the Vines puts a fresh spin on a wine train theme. Guests stay in train-inspired units right in the middle of a working vineyard off Wine Road 290. Each room has its own theme and decor related to famous wine destinations, and it’s a perfect spot to stay if you’re in Fredericksburg for their wine scene.

As a cabin-style retreat, ParcBlu takes a different approach with container cabins that lean modern and minimal. However, it has an upscale resort atmosphere with features like a private hot tub, a pool, a firepit, and a court to play pickleball.

The wine scene has had a glow-up

Fredericksburg’s wine reputation is well known across Texas and beyond, but the tasting room options keep getting more interesting. Whatley Wines focuses on small-batch, estate-crafted wines with an unhurried tasting experience. English Newsom Cellars has a new downtown room that pours exclusively from vineyards in the Texas High Plains. Set on West Main, Calivence Wine Tasting Bar & Bistro has curated wines from California and France.

A few new reasons to wander down Main Street

Main Street has some new shops to browse. Western Galleries focuses exclusively on Texas artists, with original work that’s been personally selected by the gallery owner. Jackson Ballard’s new gallery showcases his folk art storytelling style, and Style 208 is a 1,500-square-foot space mixing furniture, rustic decor, baskets, art, and more. Dirndle Trachten Haus is a small, family-run shop that celebrates the town’s German Heritage. Blue Thistle Tea offers incredible loose leaf teas and celebrates the art of slowing down.

Beyond wine tasting in Fredericksburg

If you’ve done the wine trail a few times and want to mix it up, Pickle Haus Social is a new indoor pickleball spot open to drop-ins, and it’s ideal for visitors because no membership is required. For a deeper look at Fredericksburg, Look at That! Tours offers a self-guided audio tour of Main Street and the surrounding historic neighborhood.

Thank you for reading.
