French Sandwiches opened\u00a0on the Northwest Side\u00a0in 1990, according to the San Antonio Current. The unassuming food hub tucked between a hair salon and a smoke shop served an international array of options, including a turkey club on a croissant, a\u00a0fajita chicken sandwich and the classic Vietnamese sandwich.<\/p>\n
It is not clear why French Sandwiches, formerly located at 8448 Fredericksburg Road by the Medical Center, closed after 36 years. The shuttering was quiet, reported earlier this month on Yelp and Google by hungry patrons. Its\u00a0land line is now disconnected.<\/p>\n
John F. commented on Yelp that he had eaten at French Sandwiches since 2003. \u201cGoing to miss this place,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n
One Yelp reviewer wrote that the tenant next to the sandwich spot said the restaurant closed due to a health situation in the family that owned the restaurant, though the San Antonio Express-News has not verified this claim.<\/p>\n
Sutter also mentioned owners Duc Phung and Ha Nguyen\u2019s Chef\u2019s Continental sandwich\u00a0\u2014 a baguette stuffed with pork sausage, peppery p\u00e2t\u00e9, sliced chicken, mayo and \u201cthe whole garden bouquet of cucumbers, onions, pickles, carrots, daikon and cilantro.\u201d<\/p>\n
