We might be known for signature foods like our tater tot hotdish, but Minnesota just got some love when it comes to pizza, as one of our own pizza places was just shouted out as one of the 27 best in the country right now.<\/p>\n

Minnesota Has Nearly 1,550 Pizza Restaurants<\/p>\n

Pizza is one of the most popular foods here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes and across the country these days. The History Channel says the pizza we know and love today was first developed in Naples, Italy, in the 18th or early 19th century. But the story of pizza goes back much further, it says, because people in ancient civilizations were already eating pizza-like flatbreads topped with other ingredients.<\/p>\n

These days, recent estimates from PoiData say there are nearly 1,550 pizza restaurants here in the North Star State alone, while a national market analysis counts says there are nearly 98,100 pizza places across the U.S.<\/p>\n

Minneapolis Pizza Named One of America’s 27 Best in 2026<\/p>\n

But only ONE of those Minnesota pizza restaurants was just included on the Food & Wine 2026 list of the 27 Best Pizzas In America Right Now. The list, Food & Wine says, includes everything from ‘New York classics and Detroit-style pies to Tokyo-inspired pizzas and boundary-pushing new creations,’ and is a look at ‘the most essential pies in America right now.’<\/p>\n

And the Minnesota entry on that prestigious list is the Perfect Pickle Pie at Pizzeria Lola in Minneapolis. The pizzeria, which is located at 5557 Xerxes Avenue South, is owned by chef Ann Kim, who, its website says, quit her day job, opened a neighborhood wood-fired pizzeria and named it after her dog, Lola.<\/p>\n

Born in Korea and raised in Minneapolis, pizzaiola Ann Kim tops Pizzeria Lola\u2019s inventive long-fermented wood-fired pies with her own life story (and a heavy dose of craft). Pies like Korean BBQ and the Perfect Pickle Pie give a new definition to the term ‘personal pizza.’<\/p>\n

This isn’t the first time Pizzeria Lola has made national headlines, however. In addition to being featured in several national publications in recent years, the restaurant was also featured on the 2022 Netflix series, Chef’s Table: Pizza.<\/p>\n
