Downtown Denver office tower to welcome new restaurant next year
Award-winning Denver Chef Troy Guard is opening another restaurant in downtown Denver.
The Tag Restaurant Group — which operates Los Chingones, Guard and Grace, HashTAG, Bubu and Done Deal — announced plans to open a new restaurant inspired by Guard’s mother at 1900 Lawrence.
The new restaurant inside one of downtown Denver’s youngest office towers will be called Barbara and is set to open in fall 2027.
Guard’s mother used to be a flight attendant and the restaurant’s menu will be inspired by her travels, the restaurant group said in a news release.
“When people ask why I’m doing this restaurant, the answer is my mom. Barbara welcomed everyone to her table, she noticed beauty everywhere she went, she collected stories instead of souvenirs,” Guard said in the announcement. “I spent my career traveling, from Hawaii to Hong Kong to Singapore to New York and every stop taught me something about how food brings people together. Barbara is where all of that comes home.”
1900 Lawrence was the last office tower to be built in Denver’s downtown. As the office market struggled, there have been no new offices in the pipeline since the 30-story class A building was completed in early 2024.
Guard was named one of the “Great Regional Chefs of America” by the James Beard Foundation and his restaurant Guard and Grace is recommended in the Michelin Guide.

Denver brewer closes Colfax location and plans new spot in Golden
Bruz Beers is closing its Bruz Off Fax location after six years in business in a few weeks, Colorado’s Belgian-style brewing company announced.
But it’s not all bad news.
Bruz Beers also said it will open a new taproom in Golden.
Owners Ryan and Rachel Evans said they’re closing the Colfax Avenue location at 1495 York St. on Sept. 24 to make room for the new Golden taproom. Their original location in Denver’s Midtown neighborhood will continue operating as normal.
“We accomplished what we wanted at Bruz Off Fax,” the owners said in a news release. “We built a special place where people could hang out and feel welcome while sipping some great beer. Colfax will always have a special place in our hearts.”
The new Golden taproom is set to open in the former Golden Animal Hospital and will feature a two-story outdoor patio with a view of the foothills, the announcement said. It’s scheduled to open in 2028.
“Joining the ranks of one of the nation’s premier beer towns is truly thrilling, especially given Golden’s stellar reputation,” the Evans stated in a news release. “We look forward to bringing not only our Bruz Beers brand, but also one of the best selections of Belgian import beers in the region.”
Association of building owners has new CEO
The Denver Metro Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) has a new leader running the nonprofit trade association.
The organization representing commercial real estate owners announced Sara Reynolds will take over as CEO beginning Monday. Reynolds has more than 20 years of experience working in Colorado as a consultant and helped Colorado Gives Foundation implement its Jefferson County Housing Blueprint, Denver Metro BOMA said.
“A strong commercial real estate sector is fundamental to a strong economy, thriving communities and a competitive Colorado,” Reynolds said in a news release. “I am honored to join Denver Metro BOMA and look forward to partnering with association members, business leaders, elected officials and community stakeholders to strengthen the industry, expand opportunity and ensure BOMA remains a trusted voice helping shape the future of our region.”
