The 60-acre property in Malibu, California, became a practical answer to a problem he faced while producing cooking content from a test kitchen above his Hollywood restaurant. Since buying it with his wife Lindsay Price in August 2021, Stone has added filming facilities, kitchens and vineyards while gradually shaping the land into a working farm. The project has also introduced him to a very different challenge, as maintaining such a large property has proved harder than he first expected.
How the 60-acre California farm became an essential part of Curtis Stone’s life
Stone and Price first came across the property while looking for a space for Price’s mother. At the same time, Stone needed some place better suited for filming because much of his work was being produced from the test kitchen above Gwen, his Hollywood restaurant and butcher shop.According to Realestate, the property stood out because it already had established oak trees, green lawns, rolling vineyard-covered hills and an existing building. Its setting also offered potential for weddings and other events. The couple eventually bought the property in August 2021 and named it Four Stones Farm, after Stone, Price and their two sons, Hudson and Emerson. The farm is about 20 kilometres from the Pacific Coast Highway and the ocean, in Malibu Canyon. Rather than treating it simply as a private country home, Stone began adapting the existing structures for his work.

Curtis Stone turned his California farm into a creative hub
One of the first major changes was turning the existing building into a dedicated production facility. Realestate reported that Stone added 5 kitchen sets and an outdoor brick kitchen with a grill and pizza oven over the course of a year. The move allowed him to leave the test kitchen at Gwen and give that space back to the restaurant’s chefs. The ranch subsequently became a place where Stone could film television, cooking lessons and other food content while also spending time with his family. His own website reports the Four Stones Farm as the creative hub of the Curtis Stone Group. It houses test kitchens, vineyards and film studios, while also serving as a place for developing dishes and products. The farm is home to a working vineyard that produces wine under the Four Stones label.
What makes the vineyard important to the property
The vines were already part of the attraction when Stone and Price viewed the land. Their presence also pushed the chef into an unexpected new role.Realestate reported that the property covered just over 60 acres and already had vines when Stone bought it, effectively turning him into a winemaker overnight. The couple harvested their first grapes in October, producing Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah. Stone described the experience as exciting as well as daunting. The vineyard has since become part of the identity of Four Stones Farm. The family has hosted gatherings surrounded by the vines, including Thanksgiving meals where the wine being served came from the property itself. The farm has also provided a backdrop for family occasions, with a stage built beneath one of the large oak trees for a concert involving Hudson’s band.
Farming has proved harder than Stone expected
For all the planning that has gone into the property, Stone has found that owning a farm brings a very different set of responsibilities from running a professional kitchen.According to Fox News, Stone had underestimated how involved farm ownership would be. Strong winds could bring down trees onto fences, leaving him to deal with the aftermath. He also acknowledged that his chainsaw and tractor skills were still developing. The farm has also introduced a family chore system. Price takes part in the grape harvest, while Stone continues to work towards expanding what the property can produce. Earlier plans reported by Realestate included gardens, orchards and animals, with the family even considering pet llamas.
Four Stones Farm is now the centre of Stone’s empire
The farm fits naturally into Stone’s wider culinary operation. His official website lists Gwen Butcher Shop & Restaurant, The Pie Room by Curtis Stone and Woodend by Curtis Stone among his restaurant ventures. Gwen in Hollywood places particular emphasis on premium meats cooked over live fire, while Woodend in Mexico follows a similar fire-focused approach using locally sourced ingredients. His production company, Sunny Side Up, also operates from the farm. Curtis Stone’s website reports that its facilities include 6 kitchen studios and have supported more than 60 hours of original content and more than 400 hours of live broadcast programming. Four Stones Farm is a family space, a vineyard, a filming location, a collection of working kitchens and an unfinished farming project.
