A new restaurant coming to North Charleston will carry the name of a former Charleston dining institution — and the woman who helped make it one.

Chef Mark Bolchoz, founder of Semper Elevatum Hospitality and Hanahan osteria Cane Pazzo, has announced Reenie’s, a new restaurant slated to open in mid-November at 1262 Remount Road.

The restaurant is named for Bolchoz’s grandmother, Maureen “Reenie” Calder-Bolchoz, who was behind the beloved Mike Calder’s Irish Pub, which closed in the early 2000s.

Bolchoz said Reenie’s will draw inspiration from his grandmother’s approach to hospitality while blending Irish coastal traditions with Lowcountry ingredients.

“What we’re building is a local; it’s about welcome, not wallpaper,” Bolchoz said. “My grandmother and Uncle Mike understood that better than anyone: they made Calder’s feel like Charleston’s living room. Reenie’s picks up where she left off — her welcome, her name on the door, and a seat for every walk of life in Charleston.”

The menu will center on a wood-fired hearth and Argentinian-style grill, with Irish-leaning European fare including fish and chips, seafood featuring the day’s catch, an 8-ounce tavern burger, grilled vegetables, pork chops, braised lamb and poached and grilled fish.

Local ingredients will include seafood from Tarvin Seafood and Abundant and PWYII Seafood, along with seasonal produce from Storey Farms. The restaurant will also feature a house-made charcuterie program using meats from Keegan-Fillion Farms.

Chef de cuisine Denton Taylor, who previously worked at Momofuku CCDC, Blackberry Mountain, Rolf & Daughters and The Ordinary, will lead the kitchen. Bolchoz’s brother, Vincent Bolchoz, will serve as general manager.
