Chefs share the Burger King menu items they recommend ordering.

When you’re craving a quick, satisfying meal, Burger King has plenty of options beyond the standard burger-and-fries combo. But with a menu that includes everything from flame-grilled burgers to crispy chicken and indulgent desserts, it can be tough to decide what’s actually worth ordering, so to help narrow down the choices, Eat This, Not That! asked Therese Buchanan, home chef, food blogger & recipe developer at Tessie’s Table, for her favorite picks. Here are the top five.

Whopper

It’s hard to talk about Burger King without mentioning its most recognizable burger. The Whopper has been a menu staple for decades, and its combination of flame-grilled beef and classic toppings gives it the familiar fast-food burger experience many customers are looking for.

“The Whopper is Burger King’s signature burger, and the flame-grilled beef is what really sets it apart,” says Buchanan. “The smoky flavor from the grill works really well with the lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, ketchup, and mayo, and the toasted sesame seed bun holds up well to all those toppings.”

Original Chicken Sandwich

If chicken is more your speed, Burger King’s Original Chicken Sandwich offers a longtime alternative to the chain’s beef burgers. Its simple combination of crispy breaded chicken and creamy toppings keeps the focus on the contrast between the crunchy coating and soft bun.

“Burger King’s Original Chicken Sandwich has been on the menu for decades, and it’s still a solid order, says Buchanan. “The breaded chicken, shredded lettuce, and creamy mayo are served on a long sesame seed bun, with plenty of crunch from the coating on the chicken.”

Bacon King

For diners who prefer their burgers on the heartier side, the Bacon King brings together several classic burger ingredients in one substantial sandwich. With two beef patties and a generous amount of bacon and cheese, it’s designed for anyone looking for a particularly filling order.

According to Buchanan, “The Bacon King is one of the better choices when you want a really substantial burger.” She adds, “Two flame-grilled beef patties, American cheese, thick-cut smoked bacon, ketchup, and mayo give you plenty of smoky, salty flavor in every bite.”

Onion Rings

Fries may be the standard side at most fast-food chains, but Burger King gives customers another option with its signature onion rings. Their distinctive shape and crisp coating make them an easy pick when you want something different alongside your burger or sandwich.

“Burger King’s onion rings are a nice change from the usual fast-food fries,” Buchanan says. “The coating gets crisp and golden while the onion inside adds a little sweetness, and they’re especially good with Burger King’s Zesty Sauce.”

Hershey’s Sundae Pie

A Burger King meal doesn’t have to end with a savory bite. The Hershey’s Sundae Pie offers a chocolate-forward finish, combining a crisp crust with a creamy filling and chocolate toppings for a dessert with more textural variety than a typical soft-serve treat.

“The Hershey’s Sundae Pie is worth saving room for,” Buchanan says. “It has a crunchy chocolate crust, chocolate crème filling, whipped topping, and chocolate chips, so you get a good mix of creamy filling and crisp crust rather than one soft texture throughout.”
