The city of Battle Creek and the community of farmers and restaurant employees are mourning the loss of a leader in the local restaurant community, Chef Trent Mead, who has sadly passed away.
Trent worked in many of the best restaurants throughout Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, and nearby areas. He participated in many competitions and mentored students and the next generation of chefs.

Many people know him as the head chef for Lucky Rooster and view him as a true leader, a teacher, and someone who made a lasting impact on the people in the community around him. His colleague, chef Toni Davis, from Kitchen Proper, shared on his social media:
Today, I’m still at a loss over losing a dear colleague and friend. I feel for the Lucky Rooster and One Nation crews. Trent Mead was a leader, a teacher, and someone who made a lasting impact on the people and the community around him.
As he elaborated, his knowledge stretched far beyond the kitchen:
He showed me what it meant to lead with passion, to take pride in your craft, to give back to your community, to make time to have a laugh, and to always make time to help someone coming up behind you.
