Houston chef and restaurant owner Ryan Tapp dies at 37

Houston chef, restaurateur and social media personality Ryan Tapp died Sunday at 37, according to the Houston Police Department. 

According to a Houston Police Department spokesperson, officers were called to Nola’s Chicken & Waffles, where they found a body a little after noon. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences declared Tapp dead at 12:09 p.m. Sunday.

The medical examiner’s office has not yet released the primary cause of death.

Tapp was a chef, restaurateur and social media personality who built a following in Houston through food videos, restaurant reviews and his own restaurants. He operated Nola’s Chicken & Waffles in West Oaks and recently opened Taste of H-Town Bar & Grill in Midtown.

Tapp’s brother, Bryan Tapp, also confirmed his death on social media.

“Today I found out my twin went to heaven to be with my momma,” Tapp said. “It hurt to lose a sibling especially a twin. I will see you again bro.”

A New Orleans native, Tapp owned two restauraunts in Houston: Nola’s Chicken & Waffles in West Oaks and Taste of H-Town Bar & Grill in Midtown.

He was also the host of an online food television show from 2024 called “Raw & Ruthless.”
