NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — When he’s got his guitar, Fredo Nogueira goes back to the beginning.
That’s back when he figured he’d make a life and a living with his music.
That was then and WGNO Good Morning New Orleans features reporter Bill Wood says that this is now.

“It turns out people enjoy my food more than they did my music,” said Nogueira.
Now, Nogueira is Chef Fredo with five New Orleans restaurants.
Val’s, where Mexican street food is on the menu, High Hat Cafe serves up southern hospitality, Cane & Table takes you out for a drink in Old Havana and Cure is a James Beard Award-winning cocktail bar.
His newest is Cafe Conmigo, which translates to Coffee with me.
Nogueira is first-generation Cuban. His parents fled Cuba in the 50s. Here, they sent their son to Rummel High School and then to the University of New Orleans.

“I’m the keeper of the flame of my family’s heritage,” said Nogueira.
After catering and pop-ups, Nogueira knew he was meant for life as a chef.
