New this year, the announcement of Michelin-starred restaurants in Texas will not accompany an awards ceremony or party.
In 2026 the company is doing away with the soiree, and restaurant owners and chefs will learn their fates online.
This fall marks the end of Michelin’s three-year contract with five visitors bureaus and Travel Texas, the six groups that cumulatively paid Michelin just under $3 million to expand into the Lone Star State.
Michelin wouldn’t discuss the terms of the Texas Guide relationship, a spokesperson confirmed on Aug. 19, 2026.
“It’s worth mentioning that once the Guide arrives in a destination the intent is for it to remain there,” reads a company statement.
The famously secretive company said in a news release it is finishing up its picks for 2026. The list is “full of culinary gems for travelers from both near and far,” Michelin says.
The Texas Guide will also select Bib Gourmand winners, which are restaurants that offer a great value. In years past, that definition was $50 for one person to eat three courses. Dallas-Fort Worth winners have included Cattleack Barbeque in Farmers Branch, Lucia in Dallas’ Oak Cliff, Ngon Vietnamese Kitchen on Greenville Avenue and others.
From year to year, restaurants do automatically not keep their Michelin star or Bib Gourmand recognitions. Accolades must be earned again in each guide. Still, when we compare Michelin’s list of winners from 2024 to 2025, none of the two dozen restaurants honored in Dallas-Fort Worth lost their status.
