A new restaurant in downtown State College combines two cuisines under one roof.
Indian Latin Kitchen is now serving a fusion of its eponymous flavors at 404 E. College Ave. in the former home of Kokoro Japanese Restaurant, which quietly closed earlier this year. The new eatery celebrated its grand opening Wednesday by halving prices across its entire menu.
That menu, available online, features popular dishes like butter chicken, birria ramen and curry, plus tamales, empanadas, samosas and basmati rice specials. Indian Latin Kitchen’s offerings also include a wide range of naan breads, fried plantains, vegetarian and seafood dishes and drinks like chai tea and mango and strawberry lassi.
Customers can sample Indian Latin Kitchen’s menu with a daily buffet offered from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. that starts at $15.95. The restaurant is otherwise open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 9:45 p.m.
“We want to introduce the Latin and Indian cultures in an approachable way,” said employee Alex Ajualip, whose cousin owns the restaurant.
Indian Latin Kitchen is the latest eatery to open in downtown State College, with others like Brooklyn Bodega Deli & Grill, Third Planet Coffee Brewers and Backstage Brewdio set to launch soon. Elsewhere, Jimmy John’s is planning to open new locations along South Atherton Street and on Penn State’s campus, while a pair of Centre County proprietors are working to bring a new restaurant to Bellefonte’s historic Gamble Mill.
