Korean BBQ Hungry Pot taking over former Hooters in Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY – Hungry Pot, a New England chain that specializes in Korean BBQ and hot pot dining, is set to open in the former Hooters restaurant, according to permit filings for the location at 378 Maple Ave.

Shrewsbury Marketplace developer Sam Adams confirmed the plans.

“We’re happy to have them join the restaurants we have,” Adams told the Telegram & Gazette in a phone interview on Friday, Aug. 28. The restaurant is expected to open “in the next few months,” following extensive renovations, Adams said.

Hooters occupied the restaurant space for years before shuttering in May after the national chain filed for bankruptcy in 2025. Originally the owners of the Massachusetts franchise said they hoped to continue operating in the state. As of June, all locations were closed.

Adams, who manages Spagtacular LLC, laid out a multiphase plan to redevelop the plaza. The plaza is now in its fourth phase of redevelopment, which includes expanding existing commercial space and creating an al fresco dining feel, he said. Tandoori Pizza is also “coming soon” as part of the plaza’s expansion, which will also increase outdoor dining offerings, he said.

The Hungry Pot restaurant will join other restaurants in the marketplace: Wok & Flame Halal Asian, NOLA Cajun Kitchen, Eggholic Indian Street Food and Imperial Buffet. According to Adams’ plan, another unnamed restaurant is coming to the space next to Imperial Buffet.

Hungry Pot has two other Massachusetts restaurants, in Natick and Dartmouth.
