Surrey restaurant serves everything from everyday family meals to customized catering for celebrations of up to 1,500 guests
With more than 20 years of experience as a chef, owner Sukhdeep Gill has built Garam Masala around a simple idea: the same food served at life’s biggest celebrations should also be available for an everyday family meal.
“As our catering business grew, customers kept asking us: ‘Where can we come and eat your food when there isn’t an event?’” says the Garam Masala chef and owner. “That demand from our customers helped us take the next step.”
Today, diners can enjoy Garam Masala’s flavourful dishes in a warm and inviting dining atmosphere, combining modern comfort with traditional hospitality.
The catering side and restaurant work hand-in-hand. Guests often enjoy some of the restaurant’s signature dishes including Fish Pakora, Puran Singh Style Desi Murg, Goat Curry and Bhuna Gosht Lamb at a wedding then turn into a regular dine-in customer; others savour a memorable meal at the restaurant then book a catered event down the road.
“We heard from so many people who wanted to be able enjoy our food regularly instead of waiting until the next celebration,” Gill says. “Opening our restaurant allowed us to serve those customers every day while continuing to grow our catering business.”
“This gives customers the flexibility to create a diverse menu, particularly for larger weddings and events,” he says.

Craving a single dish? Need to feed a group of friends and family? Garam Malsala does it all.
Family combos make ordering easy, combining popular appetizers and main courses with a variety of flavours in one convenient package.
Takeout packages are also an option for 15 or more guests, with vegetarian, non-vegetarian and mixed food options, perfect for get-togethers, birthdays and family celebrations at home.
Indian dishes are at the heart of Garam Masala, but they also offer Chinese and Italian cuisine as part of their catering program, serving anywhere from 100 to 1,500 guests.
“As Garam Masala grows, our goal is to make great food easy to enjoy — whether we’re serving dinner for a family, preparing food for a gathering at home or catering one of life’s biggest celebrations.”
Something sweet
Garam Masala has also expanded into desserts.
Kulfiwala by Garam Masala combines nostalgia of traditional Indian kulfi with the variety of a modern day ice-cream shop, with decadent flavours including pistachio, mango, paan, milk and almond kulfi.
Kulfi isn’t churned like standard ice creams, so it enjoys a richer texture and slower melting. As a result, “dessert can become an experience for guests rather than simply another item on the buffet,” Gill says
