A build-your-own taco restaurant that opened in East Cooper’s largest shopping center less than three years ago abruptly closed last weekend.
Condado’s last day was Aug. 29, nine days after its landlord began the eviction process.
Signs posted on the doors Tuesday said the Mount Pleasant Towne Centre location was “permanently closed.” No explanation was given.
“It has been out pleasure to serve the Mt. Pleasant community and we are grateful for your support over the years,” according to the flyers.
The Columbus, Ohio-based chain didn’t immediately respond to an email seeking additional comment.

Condado Tacos & Tequila backfilled the long-vacant, refurbished Atlanta Bread Co. space in Mount Pleasant Towne Centre in 2023. The chain’s corporate website shows it has 50 restaurants in nine states, including two in Charlotte, but none in South Carolina.
The Condado on Woodruff Road in Greenville opened in 2023 also was recently closed.
The 12-year-old taco and margarita concept has been owned since 2020 by The Beekman Group, a New York-based private-equity firm.
Mount Pleasant Towne Centre’s owner filed an eviction notice against Condado Tacos 52 LLC with the East Cooper Magistrate Court on Aug. 20. The documents are not accessible online.
Also, court filings in the Upstate show the landlord of the shuttered Greenville restaurant is seeking nearly $52,000 in unpaid rent and late fees. The collection lawsuit was filed in June.
For Mount Pleasant diners, it’s the second Mexican-style option to close its doors within the past six weeks. Guadalajara Bar & Grill near the Isle of Palms Connector and Hungryneck Boulevard shut down July 25 after a roughly 10-year run.
