A restaurant that has operated on Wichita’s east side for 20 years has closed.
But its longtime home won’t be empty for long.
Boa Pojananond, who first opened Promise Thai Cuisine at 313 S. Greenwich in 2006, quietly closed the restaurant on Monday. He’s been wanting to retire for some time and has had the restaurant on and off the market since November 2024.

The new owner of the space is already familiar to Thai food fans in Wichita. Sermsi Jitudom, who runs the 24-year-old Chiang Mai Thai Restaurant at 3141 S. Hillside, has decided to expand her business and is turning Promise Thai into a second location for her business. (She is not affiliated with the Chiang Mai that opened in Andover in 2024.)
Jitudom said she plans to open the doors on Friday.
“I have a lot of good customers with my old restaurant,” she said. “And a lot of people are living on this side of town, so I just want to make it convenient for them.”

The new Chiang Mai will have the same menu as the original, she said. It will be a full-service operation, where wait staff take orders at diners’ tables. Customers also will be able to order food online.
The hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Chiang Mai’s menu offers Thai and Chinese favorites, from cashew chicken to Pad Thai. It also includes a long list of curry, noodle and rice dishes and has several options for vegetarians. It also offers lunch specials from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
